Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter Features comedian Doug Benson expanding a bit from his stand-up act to strained results. Apr 24, 2008 Full Review Mark Rahner Seattle Times However benign you may think its subject is, Super High Me is proof that stoned people are rarely as funny as they think they are, just the same as your coked-up friends are never as interesting as they think they sound. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 11, 2008 Full Review Brian Orndorf BrianOrndorf.com Doug Benson is a funny guy, heartily working his laidback wit and weed-centric material to great effect, cracking up the crowds and endearing himself to the stoner underground. Rated: B May 15, 2008 Full Review Sara Maria Vizcarrondo Boxoffice Magazine Though the point of the film is somewhat obscured by its unwieldy structure (stoned director? high editor?), the project overall has the potential to be the stoner's Rocky Horror Picture Show. Rated: 1.5/5 Apr 14, 2008 Full Review Luke Y. Thompson L.A. Weekly For those of us who miss Dave Attell's Insomniac TV show, it's fun to merely watch, once again, a dingy comedian stumble bleary-eyed around various cities with a cameraman in tow. Apr 10, 2008 Full Review Erik Davis Cinematical Super High Me is nowhere near the smartest or most thought-provoking documentary you will ever see, but it certainly delivers enough humor to keep even the non-stoners chuckling for an hour and a half. Dave W Starring possibly the least funniest comedian I've had the displeasure of witnessing. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I only seen this movie once, Idk if I would reccomend this movie to others. I might watch this docu. again idk, maybe if I was bored or nothing else was on. I have seen Super Sized Me and saw that this was like that but with weed. I went with 2 stars for this docu. not really serious at all. If you like/weed then you will think that it is a funny docu. Not much you can say about it. A comedian goes 30 days with/without weed. It would be so different if this docu. was made today with so many places legalizing weed, and people are more open to it these days. Then say when this docu./movie was made in the early-mid 2000's. Can come off a bit dated seeing how far we came since then/this docu./movie. Whatever your take on weed is, this was just a silly docu. that Doug Benson decided to do for shits whatever 2 stars. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This may be amusing if.. a) u have no idea about weed or b) ur extremely high.. it was soo boring. For a documentary did little documenting. . Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member As a fan of the Doug Loves Movies podcast I thought this would be something fun to watch just to pass the time. When Super Size Me was in theaters Doug used to joke in his stand-up routine that he was going to do the same thing but with marijuana. What started as a joke became this movie. The mission was 30 days without weed and then 30 days of non-stop weed. It's funny, because the "story" of this documentary is that there is no real story. Doug seems to face very little withdrawal in the abstaining 30 days, and he has very little physical/mental damage in the high 30 days. The clips of his stand-up act appear to go through very little change throughout the length of the film. In fact the effects of this experiment on Doug are so insignificant that they decide to supplement Super High Me with a general history lesson about cannabis and the medical laws that have made it legal in many states of our nation. They interview the owners of dispensaries, some of the people behind the legislation, and many of Doug's stand-up friends. There are also scenes where the film twists into a news-focus as they cover the raids by DEA agents, because federal law is at odds with the state law. Personally, I found Doug to be the most interesting and entertaining part of the film, but because the weed has very little effect on him I can see why they padded it with other talking points. Perhaps the most effective statement that Super High Me makes is pointing out the double-standard that the damaging McDonald's food we see in Super Size Me can be legal and the largely "safe" marijuana seen in Super High Me is still heavily controlled or illegal. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Not as good as Super Size Me but it was good. I went to Family Video and they had it for 2 movies for a dollar. Would tell most people to watch it. Had some shocking facts that I did not know about, and helped me learn a false stereotype that all people who smoke weed go to the doctor and say they have a pain in there back and get it.
