Interviewees include several self-proclaimed real-life superheroes, like "Zimmer," a gay superhero from Brooklyn, N.Y.; "Mr. Xtreme" and "The Vigilante Spider," who sometimes team up in San Diego; and "Master Legend," who lives in Orlando, Fla., and has an otherwise typical life with his girlfriend. Audience Member This show what happens when people without superpowers take the streets as if they were superheroes. Watch as people who are obsessed with the lifestyle can't even take care of themselves. See people wearing masks try to do good, even when their methods are questionable. This documentary is an interesting, partly inspirational, and mostly disturbing film that deals with self-proclaimed superheroes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Humorous and well-rounded. More about the problems of the world ... that lead to the necessity for these [superheroes] to pop up Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Really seems to go nowhere... seems to suggest the people that spend their time fighting crime as superheroes are interesting characters, but the movie never seems to achieve that depth with its characters (and to be honest, whenever that depth is approached I would get uneasy that the individual had mental health issues) Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member This was an interesting look at people around the country (and in Canada) who dress up in costume not to "play" superheroes, but to actually be superheroes. They don't have any super powers, but for the most part they work to make life better for the people around them. They have mixed motives and, sometimes, foul language, but are intriguing nonetheless. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Mike Barnett's humorous documentary is biased, but the way we're introduced to these people as somewhat silly to leave them with the impression that under their costumes they are just compassionate people wanting to make a difference is truly uplifting. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting idea, but I really wanted to see some of these guys try and fight some crime. Andy Webster New York Times Think of "Superheroes" as a real-life "Kick-Ass," with more community outreach and far less acute injury. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 6, 2011 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed A downright annoying and excruciating documentary... Nov 27, 2011 Full Review Christopher Campbell Cinematical Humorous and well-rounded. More about the problems of the world ... that lead to the necessity for these [superheroes] to pop up in cities across the nation. Rated: 3/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Film4 Staff Film4 Biased but fun, Mike Barnett's sympathy towards his subjects lends itself to a goofy, funny and terribly uplifting call to arms.
