There exists a world within our world. A world beneath what we call cyberspace. A world protected by firewalls, passwords and the most advanced security systems. In this world we hide our deepest secrets, our most incriminating information, and of course, a whole lot of money. This is the world of "Swordfish." The world's most dangerous spy is hired by the CIA to coerce a computer hacker recently released from prison to help steal $6 billion in unused government funds.

Critics Consensus

Swordfish is big on explosions, but critics dislike how it skimps on plot and logic. Also, the sight of a person typing at a computer just isn't that interesting.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media Cool explosions are the best thing here. Rated: 3/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review David Ansen Newsweek It's a good thing the action is noisily distracting, because you don't want any down-time in which to ponder the plausibility, or the sense, of anything that is happening. Nov 1, 2007 Full Review Kimberley Jones Austin Chronicle Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 10, 2003 Full Review Steve Warren Southern Voice (Atlanta) Director Dominic Sena, moving up from Gone in Sixty Seconds, puts everything you're supposed to see and hear on the screen and makes you believe enough of it while it's happening that you won't have serious vague moments until you leave the theater. Rated: 2.5/4 May 7, 2023 Full Review Abbie Bernstein Audio Video Revolution Swordfish is made with demonstrable skill and enthusiasm, and it's so improbable in its particulars that most viewers in the mood to do so will be able to kick back and enjoy it as shoot-'em-up entertainment. Rated: 3/4 Oct 31, 2018 Full Review Cole Smithey ColeSmithey.com Good pacing and intriguing characters drive the overflowing testosterone blitz to an above average level of fun. Audience Member The stuffed shirt critics tore SWORDFISH to pieces over arrogantly technical movie making BS and, there's a lot of the same from wannabe critics (but clueless) audience members. In their bloated mentality, both have ignorantly forgotten the reason for movies, which is the overall STORY and →ENTERTAINMENT factor (THE VERY PURPOSE OF BOOKS AND MOVIES). The storyline and entertainment value for SWORDFISH is definitely 4 star for TERRIFIC storyline, casting, direction, acting and editing (all shortcomings be damned). Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Oaklee D Not as dated as I thought a 2001 film about hacking would be, this film turns out to be a fun popcorn flick full of action. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review Shane O The green filter , so trendy at the time its aged badly. Disjointed plot hard to follow , loosing your attention. Some fun moments but not great overall Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Audience Member Ah the infamous topless scene for Halle Berry. 4 stars! Haha Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review Coralie M ...here John Travolta returns; and me as a viewer am reminded again of a conundrum 🤔 Is this guy undercover? On a weird-ass riff of the danger-bus and bomb scenario...why does the bus look like a macro thing from...Tron? Anyhow, what does that matter? Jackman gets to rescue his daughter from her (better-off?) porn-star mom... Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Honest D The only reason to possibly watch this movie is if you want to see Halle Berry doing naked stuff. The rest of the movie is unbelievable and dumb. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
