The humor is silly, and the story is actually decent—especially with her ending up in Miami around people who challenge her beliefs. It’s weird but entertaining. It covers every genre from thriller to action to comedy to romance to ridiculous… with a little outrageous religion and homophobia sprinkled here and there. Female version of Clayton Bigsby. Terri Joe: Missionary in Miami is intentionally chaotic and off-center, but it never feels try-hard or manufactured. That balance is tough to pull off, and the film handles it with surprising confidence. At first glance, it’s easy to write it off as ridiculous. Sit with it a little longer, though, and you start to see the craft underneath. The humor is sharp, the pacing is deliberate, and there’s a self-awareness that keeps it from tipping into pure nonsense.
