Variety Staff Variety Little Mary Pickford comes into her own. As the little, expressive-eyed tatterdemalion of the Lake Cayuga shores, Pickford sticks another feather in her movie crown. Audience Member only film Pickford did and then re-filmed Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member This is only the 3rd (of many I plan on seeing) Mary Pickford film I've see ( the other 2 being "Sparrows" and "Stella Maris") and I can see why she was a very popular actress in her day. Not just a pretty face, but a great actress who's characters you're always rooting for. "Tess" was very well done and all the characters in the story were interesting. A story of not only how rich people view the less fortunate but also how some people would let others rot in jail instead revealing the truth.
