Nicolas Rapold New York Times [It] feels scattered and less than the sum of Mr. Miller's many parts. But it has its heart in the right movie-mad place. Apr 2, 2015 Full Review Noel Murray The Dissolve While That Guy Dick Miller plays a lot like an extended (and overlong) DVD extra, the subject is so likable that the movie as a whole is fairly pleasant. Rated: 2.5/5 Apr 1, 2015 Full Review Alan Scherstuhl Village Voice Miller can't from out-of-nowhere save a picture that's only about Miller from out-of-nowhere saving pictures. Mar 31, 2015 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The ample film clips are a treat, and there are at least two points of trivia I didn’t know. Rated: 3/4 Oct 27, 2024 Full Review J Hurtado ScreenAnarchy That Guy Dick Miller is a great look at a man to whom any child of the '50s, '60s, '70s, or '80s owes more memories than we can probably count. Nov 6, 2017 Full Review Joe Bendel Epoch Times That Guy is just a ton of fun. The clips alone deliver a wildly eccentric nostalgia trip. Plus, there is something rather inspiring about Miller's resiliency. Rated: 4/5 May 23, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member You've seen him in "The Terminator," "Gremlins," "After Hours," and "Looney Tunes: Back in Action." He's appeared in cult classics like "The Little Shop of Horrors," "Piranha,"Truck Turner," and "Cannonball!" He's worked with directors including Martin Scorsese, Stephen Spielberg, James Cameron, and John Sayles. He's also appeared in garbage you've probably never heard of, like "Evil Toons," "Night Call Nurses," and "Route 666." The actor is Dick Miller, who you may not know his name, but once you see him and hear his voice, just about anyone who's ever seen a movie would recognize him. This loving documentary recounts his career by talking extensively with the colorful Miller and many of his collaborators, dating back to his start in low budget Roger Corman films. It's an interesting story how Miller got his start with Corman pictures and later in his career in the 70s when Corman was producing films with a young generation of filmmakers who grew up watching his film all wanted to use Miller, largely out of a fondness for him from old Corman pictures, but then immediately gained an appreciation for his talent at bringing great performances to small parts. Some of the filmmakers and former collaborators of Miller's who are interviewed include Roger Corman, Joe Dante, Fred Dekker, Steve Carver, Allan Arkush, Jon Davison, Ernest Dickerson, Gilbert Adler, Jack Hill, Fred Olen Ray, Adam Rifkin, and John Sayles. Some acting colleagues interviewed include Mary Woronov, Wiliam Sadler, Robert Forster, Corey Feldman, and Zach Gilligan. I think my only disappointment with the documentary was that outside of talking to John Sayles, none of the "serious" filmmakers he's worked with were interviewed. The same goes for the major film stars he's shared scenes with, like Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, or Arnold. Still, Miller's roots are really in low-budget films and that does seem to make sense for where the film would focus. A great documentary about one of the most recognizable and prolific character actors around. A must see for anyone interested in this type of thing! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member You've seen him in many things, but you might not know his name. Dick Miller, one of the most popular character actors gets his own documentary. And I had a lot of fun watching it. You would be wrong. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent Doc on That Guy! We've all seen him in countless films as the guy we always recognize but never remember who he is. After viewing this film, you will know Dick Miller. This was a wonderful surprise - I wasn't expecting to like and admire this documentary so much - it definitely worth the watch! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
