What to Know

Critics Consensus

Visually flat and narratively shallow, The Almond and the Seahorse deals with real-life issues in offensively ham-handed fashion.

Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Clumsily contrived and disingenuous stuff. A film so grating that you long for the sweet release of amnesia. Rated: 2/5 May 12, 2024 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) Worst of all, though, is the syrupy ending that finds an emotional uplift in brain injury and the degradation of memory. Rated: 2/5 May 9, 2024 Full Review Jonathan Romney Financial Times It feels strange that all this international talent should have been brought to the UK for a film so confused and half-baked — and that co-director Tom Stern... should have contributed to something that has the impersonally bright look of daytime TV. Rated: 2/5 May 9, 2024 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall There's a slightly heightened tone to the material, but the issues are complex and very personal, which makes the film involving. Rated: 3.5/5 May 15, 2024 Full Review Bradley Gibson Film Threat The Almond and the Seahorse is filled with sadness and pain, but there are moments of sunlight and happiness, which is ultimately the most anyone can ask for in this life. Rated: 7/10 May 14, 2024 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film The Almond And The Seahorse gradually coalesces like the pieces of an old memory coming back together. Jerod S Wilson and Gainsbourg are mourning the loss of their loved one's memory and in various states of grief. But their little tryst isn't believable and the whole movie feels forced. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/30/23 Full Review Jarrod N I thought this was a beautiful movie. While the start was a little bit slow, it was thought provoking, reflective and brilliant cinematography. It was refreshing to watch a movie that was purely about telling a story of every day people, in an era of movies with VR (which I also enjoy), this was really nice. Also, loved seeing Rebel in a dramatic role! Hope to see more of it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/23 Full Review isolde l beautiful, touching film without trying too hard - love it Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review riri r First drama of Rebel..a must see film.nice plot!!
