Donald Clarke Irish Times Fans of the genre will rejoice in the rare sight of a new kind of threat. They will celebrate further at the director's success in satisfactorily exploiting a challenging premise. Rated: 4/5 Apr 1, 2017 Full Review Ed Potton The Times (UK) This chilling chamber piece from the Norwegian director Andr Ovredal is an exercise in restrained horror. Rated: 4/5 Mar 31, 2017 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian The second half is merely morbid runaround, punctuating its soundtrack crashes with self-justifying footnotes on historical misogyny. Rated: 2/5 Mar 30, 2017 Full Review Erick Estrada Cinegarage In this horror story much closer in spirit to Stephen King's novels than to cheap horror films, Ørvedal makes us feel and live with his revenge nightmare that which others (particularly women) have lived and felt. Ishak H An amazing masterpiece of horror Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/08/25 Full Review Alejandra C interesting concept.. delivery kinda sucky Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/05/25 Full Review Megan D. Great movie! One of my favorites. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Ava l Worth watching! Very creepy while remaining relatively fast-paced. Mostly excels at subverting audience expectations until the halfway mark...then has a point where the fear factor becomes predictable, but it still manages to wrap up nicely and leave the audience satisfied. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Thomás U A supernatural movie that has an attractive peculiarity, with a lot of intrigue, suspense, and outstanding horror details. It gets lost in many parts, but it's entertaining. "The Autopsy of Jane Doe" is a striking proposal due to its approach, establishing a touch of originality or essence within the genre that was greatly surprising. It is a movie that takes you on a roller coaster of suspense, intrigue, attention, and surprises, referencing the work of forensic doctors, all with a supernatural theme to hook the viewer and establish a connection. At that point, the film succeeds, establishing a very formidable initial 45 minutes that keep expectations at their peak. However, even tho it loses its way after those minutes, it adds certain arguments that can either diminish or enhance the experience depending on the audience's ideals. The movie establishes striking concepts that, as the plot progresses, are considered reflections, such as the father/son relationship, work experience, common sense, trust, respect, sense of belonging, distractions, fear, mourning, understanding, training, secrets, details, and the search for truth. On the other hand, it also focuses on the unknown, external forces, mystery, terror, the enigmas behind the paranormal, and many more. In this sense, both Jane Doe's body and the activities of the forensic experts foster an interesting metaphor. It should be emphasized that the morgue is a symbol of claustrophobia, tension, and survival. Now then, the script is decent, coherent, and has its flow, but at certain points, it falls apart, which can be counterproductive to the final result, as it adds certain themes or arguments that can forcefully overshadow everything previously presented. Perhaps it deserved a bit more depth and context to cover conventional situations that become repetitive again. Once again, I emphasize those 45 well-crafted minutes that maintain good tension while watching this movie. The performances are decent for what the film conveys. Brian Cox's performance is outstanding; the actor conveys all the essence of experience and applied a very agile development regarding the forensic theme, in addition to having good expressions and connection with his co-star. In the case of Emile Hirsch, he improves as the minutes go by, which also deserves credit. What Olwen Catherine Kelly conveys just by lying down and with efficient makeup is incredible. Among its negative points, some special effects that leave much to be desired should be mentioned (although others are decent), as well as certain very noticeable continuity errors in chase scenes. However, perhaps a better-developed ending in terms of the characters, where a greater impact is left and a more satisfying result is achieved. "The Autopsy of Jane Doe" is an entertaining movie with a well-applied narrative foundation throughout much of the plot. It is engaging and has its touch of relevance despite those small difficulties in the final product. It deserves a chance even tho it could have been much better with certain more feasible executions. 6.5/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/07/25 Full Review Calvin T One of the best thrillers I've ever seen Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/01/25 Full Review Read all reviews
