The wealthy Sir Basil Winterton (C. Aubrey Smith) is growing lonesome in his old age, so he sends a detective to find his three long-estranged, illegitimate children. The young adults, who each have a different mother, are brought to Basil's home in London, where they bond with their father, especially American daughter Toni (Marion Davies). But Basil's attorney discovers that Toni isn't really Basil's child, and this surprise threatens to destroy their happy home.

David K A pre-code Marion Davies film that suffers from some of her overplaying the role of the illegitimate daughter of an aging playboy - one of many. The old guy (C. Aubrey Smith) has decided he wants to gather all of his offspring together to live under his roof. The movie is directed pretty efficiently but, for me, Davies never really sells the premise that she is this great, loving, fun force in the lives of these strangers. That's interesting because she apparently was that in real life according to her biographer, Lara Gabrielle, in her fine book "Captain of Her Soul". I saw this film as part of a TCM Spotlight series on the impact of the Hays Code where this was shown as a companion with Bachelor Mother. If you can find the YouTube video of their intros to both films, it's an interesting juxtaposition. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
