Directors Taneli Mustonen and Brad Watson show bursts of proficiency, with drone shots of metallic-looking glades and interesting tilt-shift effects for the plane crash. But they are alongside some of the most laughable practical effects imaginable. Go to Full Review

Directed by Taneli Mustonen and Brad Watson, making the most of their coupla-rolls-of-nickels budget, this gator flick is an all-fronts snooze, predictable and chock-full of uninspired kills. Go to Full Review

Even as a joke, this pitiful production directed by Taneli Mustonen and Brad Watson is hard to stomach. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't or do anything we haven't seen before in other survival films. However, if you consider that it's a low-budget film with some interesting visuals, you'll most likely have a good time. [Full review in Spanish]. Go to Full Review

The Bayou is so bad that at times it even makes the audience laugh from its absurd dialogue, barely explained plot, and a gruesome attempt that never rises beyond the first steps of B-grade entertainment... [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Rob W 4d just love a creature feature and crockygators are probably top of my list so when you call a movie 'The Bayou' that's just not a great idea, a Bayou is a "marshy body of water", it's about killer Alligators FFS! So it was given a second title asking things a bit more obvious, though any promo posters let you know what you're in for, and what do you get? Well a thoroughly enjoyable creature feature, the teens in the movie aren't too annoying, decent plot and acting, but most of all the Alligators, though CGI, look great, all the scenes are in broad sunny daylight, the final scenes of the creature look really good,, lots of teeth and angry snarling, thinks do slow down in the final third a little, but it has a cool Jaws style finale, it left me with a Crocodile smile, well Alligator, but that doesn't work! check out my movie blog here https://theabsolutehorror.blogspot.com/ See more Culture D Nov 25 Meth Gators, 'nuff said. This movie is boring AF and you know it's going to have problems when I have to learn character names from the subtitles. This isn't even fun schlocky bad or entertaining, rather it sits between bad and downright godawful. Movie made me wish I had a gator come out of my toilet. It had also some tension and funny moments. See more I H Sep 23 This film is like a car crash in slow motion. You want to look away, but you can’t, because you can’t believe how bad it actually is. Logic was clearly sacrificed during the writing process, the dialogue sounds like it was written by a chatbot from 2003, and the characters have the depth of a puddle. Whoever is responsible for this mess should issue a public apology to the audience. If stupidity were painful, this movie would be rated R. See more BadNews R @TheMovieSearch Sep 9 Creature features have always had a certain charm, and films like Lake Placid showed how the right mix of suspense, humor, and monster thrills could make a giant animal attack movie both entertaining and memorable. Unfortunately, The Bayou tries to follow in those footsteps but stumbles at nearly every turn. From the very beginning, nothing quite clicks. The tone feels uneven, the pacing is off, and the film never establishes any real tension or excitement. Instead of building dread around the lurking alligator, the story meanders, leaving the audience with a sense that it never fully knew what it wanted to be. The biggest offender is the CGI. For a 2025 release, the effects look shockingly dated—closer to a low-budget TV monster-of-the-week than a theatrical feature. The alligator, which should have been the star of the film, comes across as cartoonish and unbelievable, robbing the movie of any real bite. The acting doesn’t help either. Performances feel flat and uninspired, as if the cast themselves weren’t sure what kind of film they were in. Instead of leaning into camp or taking the premise seriously, the actors land somewhere in between, which only makes everything more awkward. The writing is equally weak. It’s as if the script wanted to capture that “so bad it’s good” energy but lacked the wit, charm, or self-awareness to pull it off. The result is a lifeless story that doesn’t commit to being scary, funny, or thrilling—it just drifts along, never landing on a satisfying tone. By 2025, audiences expect at least semi-decent effects and storytelling in a monster movie. Instead, The Bayou feels like a throwback in the worst way: poorly executed, forgettable, and ultimately a waste of time. See more Read all reviews
