Siddhant Adlakha Observer The gentle sci-fi drama presents a vivid and detailed world whose murkiest elements are often left to innuendos and the imagination (but feel no less threatening). The result is a uniquely life-affirming coming of (old) age saga. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 25, 2025 Full Review Peter Debruge Variety The “Neon Bull” director has always had an incredible visual sense, though his plots tend to lack focus. Not this one. Mar 17, 2025 Full Review Jonathan Romney Screen International Centred on a winning performance from Brazilian stage and screen veteran Denise Weinberg, with support including international star Rodrigo Santoro, The Blue Trail is entrancingly unpredictable in its picaresque unravelling. Mar 17, 2025 Full Review Sarah Gopaul That Shelf The Blue Trail is an unconventional road trip movie that is also a stimulating examination of how society treats the elderly. It’s an encouraging reminder that age doesn’t dictate how anyone should live their life. Sep 19, 2025 Full Review Christopher Cross Asynchronous Media An eclectic, jazzy score and lush visuals of Amazonian waterways, covered in a thick jungle canopy, accent a unique and resonant film that rebukes a predetermined future and celebrates life’s never-ending revelations. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 17, 2025 Full Review J. Don Birnam Next Best Picture “The Blue Trail,” despite its many narrative flaws, stands out for a striking visual style and ability to ask uncomfortable questions about aging and autonomy. Bogdan D Visually stimulating, great pacing, great acting. I like that the world presented in the movie is left mostly unambiguous. Is there something sinister happening in those colonies? Maybe. Our protagonist surely thinks her freedom is worth more and goes to extreme lengths to avoid this fate. It went places I didn't expect Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/22/25 Full Review Bianca R Lekkere vreemde film over een powervrouw! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/08/25 Full Review Runa R What a delight to see this kind of film reaching commercial cinemas — where I saw it — outside the usual festival circuits, where it’s more common to come across such gems. It’s always a joy when these films manage to break through the barriers of distribution. I made a point of staying until the very end of the credits to read the message that no animals were harmed during the filming.
