LL S Well-made allegory of colonialism and colonization in a bleak post-apocalyptic setting that still manages to shimmer with hope. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Daniel T Interesting but superficial. Was it worth the time? I'm not sure it was. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/23 Full Review Matt H Random space film meets Waterworld meets Divergent. Throw in constant environmentalist scolding and you've got The Colony. Every single scene in this show is so predictable that a fourth grader could write the script. None of the characters have any redeeming qualities and I wanted them all to just go away. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review David C Slow burn, plot twists, what's not to like? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/20/23 Full Review mesteyk Plot and the end are terrible and badly executed. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/23 Full Review Exsellerate U The entire movie was filmed using a hand-held camera without image stabilization. While this might have been an attempt to create a point-of-view effect for viewers, it comes off as more of a distraction and makes the movie almost unwatchable. The camera movement seems overly exaggerated either that or the cameraman had Parkinson's. While this effect can be effective if used sparingly, especially in action sequences, employing it throughout the entire film is just annoying. Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Certainly lead adult actor Arnezeder has panache to spare, as does Bousinna, but the muddled storyline defeats them time and time again, no matter how perfectly angry/hopeful their lines are. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 1, 2021 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) A film that gets a whole lot out of very little. Aug 28, 2021 Full Review Monica Castillo RogerEbert.com Tim Fehlbaum's The Colony has many ideas about the future, and while not all of them quite stick together, there's a few interesting aesthetic and narrative choices to make it something of a curiosity. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 27, 2021 Full Review Aaron Phillips But Why Tho? A Geek Community The Colony promised to be a fascinating concept, but the plot left a lot to be desired... Rated: 6.5/10 Jan 5, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies The stark dismal environments brings thoughts of “Waterworld” and “Mad Max” but without the big studio shine. Instead Fehlbaum’s world is ugly, gritty and palpable. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 17, 2022 Full Review Jennifer Green Common Sense Media This film succeeds in crafting both a bleak, watery, post-apocalyptic Earth and a warm, involving human story about relationships.
