Critics Consensus

The Dive's taut tension and real-time unraveling of its action make this an entertainingly harrowing experience despite occasionally murky visuals and a fairly standard survival story.

David Stratton The Australian Flashbacks while in the water to the often harsh treatment of the girls by their overbearing father are more intrusive than informative. In the end, The Dive is an admirable niche film for a limited audience. Rated: 3/5 Nov 7, 2023 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com “The Dive” feels routine, a soggy journey from point A to point B that doesn’t do anything interesting enough to make it stand out in the dog days of summer. Rated: 2/4 Aug 25, 2023 Full Review Jake Cunningham Empire Magazine The Dive uses its underwater setting to add new thrills to a formulaic survivalist story, even if its attempts at emotional depth end up feeling a little shallow. Rated: 3/5 Aug 24, 2023 Full Review John Serba Decider Although the film can be tense, is capable of holding us in the moment, and avoids indulging ludicrous twists, it never supersedes its base functionality. Feb 29, 2024 Full Review Ezequiel Boetti Otroscines.com Infinite blue is the color of a true hell, an omnipresent danger that crushes the girls with the same force as it does the viewer. Andrew V Really excellent survival, diving movie. There are some truly intense scenes and it shows the dangers of diving in a unique way. If you liked the Abyss or Underwater, you will very much enjoy this movie. I can see why its not for everyone, but fans of survival films and/or underwater films will like this. One small critique I have is I think it relies a bit too much on knowing some of the terms and issues with diving. This movie is not a great way to learn about diving. But if you do know some of the basics it is really intense. If you've seen the above mentioned movies, you probably know enough. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Mitch R Awful plot, boring characters, and stupid choices made by the two girls. Acting was terrible, I did not believe they had a single honest conversation. It felt like both actresses lines were dubbed in. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/10/24 Full Review Richard H Taut thriller. Really appreciated the machinations of the plot around how to do what need to be done; kept the tension at edge-of-the-seat level for me. Didn't ever quite figure out what the older sister's issue was, however... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/26/24 Full Review Jack M This is even worse than Plan 9 from outer space. I definitely won’t be watching this movie again. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Evelyn A Awful movie! Save yourself from watching this garbage Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review McRib P As a diver, this movie was my worst fear. Some good performance in this one, true and accurate dive techniques, was good they touched on the real dangers of not decompressing Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/16/24 Full Review Read all reviews
