Audience Member So underrated. This movie was driven, fresh, and reflective. We often believe our thoughts and beliefs are the absolute truth. It was amazing to watch Sara search for more and understand that life is not always so clear-cut. I find that to be one of the most important life lessons. I have a difficult time finding movies that resonate with me; they're often too shallow and surface level. I was pleasantly surprised to see a production take the unpopular route. It isn't something I could watch another three times, but I'm grateful I saw it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Really horrible movie that seems like it was paid for by the dog breeding industry. Freaking AWFUL! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/11/19 Full Review Audience Member I don't even understand how anyone can say the movie is manipulative . the entire point is true and why its worth the watch. Its about greediness and hypocrisy and is a great example of why not every positive organization is truly for the greater good. Worth the watch, worth getting that message out there. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a well done, cinematographically beautiful and plotline tight movie. And is just the gravy on top of a strong, true but politically incorrect message that is rare in produced movies, usually necessarily privately funded film. Actors that star is such films have to risk ostracism in the industry, so it is further laudable that the producers managed to get some recognizably named starts for the film, e.g., James Remar has a respectable filmography under belt. It tells the story of a extremist animal activism from the side of those unjustifiably targeted by such runaway activism, where such activists have ascended from mere cranks, picketers and low level vandalism at the street level activistism, to high end corporate entities that have lobbied for and enacted ridiculously impossible and inconsistent laws designed to shut down otherwise conscientious and attentive animal breeders. Although the publicly stated goals of animal protection is the figurehead of their activities, their goals are far more undermining to traditional animal husbandry of all kinds. It shows the inevitable money driven aspect of these now conisdered respectable organizations that have captured that area of law enforcement conjoined with their residual moral crusading that still undercurrents their social, legal and political machinations. Fortunately, at least in this movie, mostly due to much Deus ex machina last minute investigations and revelations, the film has a satisfying ending. You can see the politically charged nature of this film by the ratings of the professional reviewers vs the audience score in Rotten Tomatos, the latter of which is twice the approval rate of those professionals whose livelihoods depend on towing the politically correct and industry approved opinion. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Nothing is black and white. Worth watching Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member A courageous pushback on official abuse of power in animal protection prosecutions. The topic is very anti-SJW, and shows what happens when ideologically driven animal rights extremists install themselves into positions of police power, and officially attack normal people who take care of their animals responsibly. A great expose' that must have taken a lot of manuevering to get turned into a movie with some prominent actors who also risked the wrath of the uber politically correct. Roxana Hadadi Punch Drunk Critics The Dog Lover may be "based on a true story," but everything about it feels so artificial and agenda-driven that it's impossible to enjoy unless you're already firmly on its side. Rated: 0.5/5 Jan 9, 2017 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter It's all as clunkily melodramatic as it sounds, with the climactic trial sequences proving particularly slow going. Jul 11, 2016 Full Review Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com The movie is shamelessly manipulative on several levels, and the cast members do their respective bits effectively. Rated: 2/4 Jul 8, 2016 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Poorly constructed with grossly misplaced performances and intentions. Rated: 0/5 Nov 7, 2019 Full Review Sandie Angulo Chen Common Sense Media Heavy-handed drama is well-acted but manipulative. Rated: 2/5 Jul 15, 2016 Full Review Edward Douglas Film Journal International At best, The Dog Lover is like a bad Hallmark Channel or Lifetime movie, so bland and vanilla it would be inhumane to canines to call it a "dog" of a movie.
