Joe Hardy (Dennis Weaver) is a prisoner of war in Vietnam mistakenly thought to have died in combat. After years of confinement, he escapes back to the United States only to find his world dramatically altered. His wife (Anne Francis) has remarried, his father's business has been sold off, and his little girl (Pamelyn Ferdin) has grown up without knowing him.
