Pat Padua Spectrum Culture Andy Milligan accomplished in the seedy underbelly of cinema a unique vision that would be impossible to recreate in the world of "good movies." Aug 28, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Video nasty tämäkin. Miksi? Kyllä nämä on niin huonoja, että suurin osa olisi saanut alunperinkin jäädä unholaan. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not entirely sure what I watched. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Three couples spend the night in an old dark house so that they can collect an inheritance but a killer is running loose. This is my first Andy Milligan film and it's really no worse than countless other exploitation films that were out at the time. Everything about the film is bad, especially the sex scenes, which are probably the worst I've ever seen in a movie. The director does try to build suspense but this here comes off rather laughable but then again, everything here comes close to laughable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Cheap and cheerful exploitation shocker from the 60s. It's been shot on poor quality film stock so picture isn't great, neither is the audio... in fact most things about this film are poor. The gore is pretty fake looking, but at least it has some and it's quite humourous to see. Not a bad plot either, it has a good twist. Stupid bizarre fun overall. Surprisingly banned in Britain as a "Video Nasty". Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member On one hand, "The Ghastly Ones" tells a coherent, though moronic 19th century greedy-relatives-fighting-over-inheritance caper. On the other hand, you can actually hear Milligan directing his actors from behind the camera. Not to mention both hands become detached with the absurd ease one would expect from one of Andy's blood-soaked efforts. Judging from what we see here, he believes humans are like insects, with limbs designed to detach if latched onto by a predator, or in this case, lopped off by a hatchet wielding hooded housekeeper. Bonus half star for the hilarious truncated ending: "Lawyer Dobbs?!?!?!?!!!" Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I actually find it difficult to say this film deserves even one star. Hands down, the lamest video nasty I've seen. Despite the story actually being half-decent, it's the direction, writing and cinematography that are dreadful. I suppose for the late sixties, the graphic nature of some of the gore was highly disturbing. Also, suggested animal mutilation and rape are both addressed. With that in mind, it's somewhat interesting to see the gross-out factor. There's even a twist ending that might have influenced Friday the 13th. (The villain is even reminiscent of the Scream baddie.) However, the whole movie drags at a painful pace and the characters are laughable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
