Critics Consensus

Uneven yet engaging, The Glorias honors the work of a pivotal American activist without quite capturing her trailblazing spirit.

Danny Leigh Financial Times If all this sounds like a rattle-through, it is, however inventive and thoughtful. Rated: 3/5 Mar 10, 2021 Full Review Kimber Myers Crooked Marquee [Julie] Taymor's film doesn't proffer a biography of a real person; instead, this feels like the deified version, which shortchanges [Gloria] Steinem, her human story, and everyone she has inspired along the way. Rated: C Nov 16, 2020 Full Review K. Austin Collins Rolling Stone These moments don't really work, but the idea behind them resonates. The movie feels like a conversation a dreaming Gloria Steinem might be having with herself, about herself. Rated: 3/5 Oct 23, 2020 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies The film ends up being so interested in showing Steinem’s days as a feminist icon that it often forgets the human element. And it stays away from any of her complexities and controversies leaving us with a fairly one-dimensional portrayal. Rated: 2/5 Aug 21, 2022 Full Review Sandie Angulo Chen AWFJ.org At nearly 2.5 hours, the film could've been shorn a bit, but it's a worthy tribute to an iconic woman's extraordinary life. Nov 18, 2021 Full Review Jennifer Merin AWFJ.org Julie Taymor's gift for visual storytelling works as both literal and metaphoric depiction of Gloria Steinem's extraordinary life. Gerry M Of no interest at all - this can only relate to half the population - I don't care about the subject matter. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/24/24 Full Review Jerod S Vikander is a fav - but her portrayal of Steinem is borderline nauseating in The Glorias. Apart from Steinem being gross, the movie itself isn't terrible, but it's all over the place (ie animated segments) Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/19/24 Full Review Andrei D Too simple and clean Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/22/23 Full Review Ball S Julie Taymor's gift for visual storytelling works as both literal and metaphoric depiction of Gloria Steinem's extraordinary life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/23 Full Review Ryan L Very nice movie love it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/23 Full Review O C It is indeed an empowering and uplifting experience...
