A film that looks like an entry in J-horror, but is actually a film noir with some horror elements, benefiting the most from the script and the atmosphere. Go to Full Review

The Inerasable is a great film that is buoyed by two good leading performances and Yoshihiro Nakamura's assured hand to subvert J-Horror tropes and clichés and create a part meta-horror experience/part crime procedural that is refreshingly smart. Go to Full Review

Aluna U Sep 12 The Inerasable is a psychological horror film adapted from Fuyumi Ono’s novel Zan’e, following a horror writer and a student who investigate a haunting in a Tokyo apartment. The film builds fear subtly through eerie sounds and unsettling visuals, focusing on a cursed land where past traumas have accumulated across generations. Though the story begins with a compelling mystery, it loses focus toward the end, with some plot points left unexplained and logic occasionally sacrificed for atmospheric tension. The story follows their investigation as they dig into the building's dark history. Based on a novel by Fuyumi Ono (Ghost Hunt, Shiki, Twelve Kingdoms) and loaded with stars (including the late Yuko Takeuchi), "The Inerasable" (Original: Zan'e) is a pretty high profile Japanese horror work. It's also the ultimate slow-burn, so anyone who's into jump scares and frenetic action might want to stay away. That said, there is a lot to be enjoyed here, from the acting to the mystery that's slowly unraveled. Personally I love subtle horror like this one that will stay with you long after the ending credits roll. Check out creepysoba.com for more recent Asian horror!
