Jonathan Holland Variety A high-profile Spanish project that's uneven on every level except technique, the watchable but forgettable "The Last Days" finds helmers Alex and David Pastor failing to deliver on the promise of their 2009 English-language debut, "Carriers." Orlando C Corny beyond belief. These overly zealous, earnest, "go to any lengths for the ones you love" movies are so exhausting. Their myopic focus overwhelms all other story elements and provides a bloated, stilted narrative, pushing out any other interesting ideas. This isn't an apocalyptic sci-fi movie. This could be any movie. Gangster kidnaps man's girlfriend, and has to track her down throughout Europe. Plane carrying man's girlfriend crashes in the Amazon and has to track her down through the treacherous rainforest. Man's girlfriend gets lost mountain climbing in the Himalayas and has to track her down in the freezing snow. In this movie we don't get any resolution for the pandemic. There are no government teams referenced working on what the cause is or a cure. There's literally no government. No military. There aren't even any villians. It's just a couple of guys trekking through tunnels, sewers and the occasional building. That's it. And then love conquers all with the cheesiest of cheese endings. Barf. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/22/25 Full Review Bea C Great post-apocalyptic flick. Nice to see Barcelona in ruins for a change. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/14/24 Full Review Michael H I was really impressed with this movie; the acting was superb... plot was very engaging and interesting in light of what we all just lived through w/the COV, reading subtitles is never ideal--but worth it for this story. The guy who played Enrique was a very strong costar throughout the adventure... love it! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/23 Full Review Darius D Enjoyed it. Ending was a little not what i was hoping for, but movie was mostly okay. Shopping mall part was fairly dumb. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A unique and underrated post-apocalypse movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Late R Apart from watching this in late 2020 and finding the weird parallels with reality, there's not much about ‘The Last Days' that's going to blow anyone away – it's not particularly original, it doesn't explain much of what's going on, and it's pretty damn predictable – but it IS well-directed which means that despite an arguably unnecessary ending that feels forced and a bit silly, it remains consistently engaging throughout.
