Cath Clarke Guardian It all feels a bit familiar, and matters are not helped by the fact that the actors playing Belgians and Germans are all speaking in English in an assortment of accents. Rated: 2/5 Oct 30, 2024 Full Review Matt Zoller Seitz RogerEbert.com This is not a shades-of-grey kind of movie. Nor is it one where the characters have more than two dimensions or the hint of a personal life beyond their immediate plot function. Rated: 2/4 Aug 12, 2024 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety A sturdy, engrossing drama conveyed in a somewhat retro mode. Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Ricky Archuleta Film Threat The Last Front is a painful depiction of the destruction of war that will leave you haunted long after the credits stop rolling. Highly recommended and worth every minute. Rated: 8/10 Jun 30, 2025 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Filled with generic dialogue and bad acting, the action drama The Last Front re-uses the same formulas in many other movies about an underdog hero. In this case, it’s about a Belgian farmer leading a resistance against German invaders during World War I. David P This movie kept me quite engaged. Despite lukewarm reviews I really liked it. I felt the horrors of warm , but other feelings of regrets, happiness, and joy. Give the movie a chance. You won’t regret it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/11/24 Full Review Zinnia V It was a good movie . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/11/24 Full Review Victoria W Great performance by the lead and strong action scenes! A little uneven in tone. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/11/24 Full Review TheMovieSearch R The Last Front is one of those period war dramas that tries to balance historical weight with modern blockbuster action, but ends up feeling hollow on both fronts. Released in 2025, the film clearly aimed for an epic, emotionally driven tone — the kind that transports you to another era and immerses you in sacrifice, courage, and loss. Instead, it delivers a meandering story that never finds its footing. Despite the promise of an atmospheric period piece, it comes across as a generic action film dressed up in vintage costumes, with little sense of purpose or passion behind its execution. From the very start, The Last Front struggles to engage. The pacing is uneven, the character arcs are thin, and the story feels detached from its own emotional stakes. You can sense that the filmmakers were aiming for something grand — perhaps a sweeping statement about heroism or survival — but the screenplay never rises to that level. It’s flat, scattered, and difficult to follow, often drifting from one moment to the next without any real narrative drive. Instead of drawing viewers into the world of war and human resilience, it leaves them confused and indifferent. The performances don’t help much either. The cast seems disconnected from the material, as if they’re not sure what tone the film is supposed to strike. Every scene feels like it’s performed in isolation — technically competent but emotionally empty. Even the direction feels half-hearted, as though the filmmakers themselves lost interest somewhere along the way. There’s no momentum, no urgency, and no real spark to carry the story forward. It’s as if everyone involved knew what kind of movie they wanted to make, but couldn’t quite figure out how to get there. Visually, the film tries to make up for its lack of storytelling depth with sweeping camera work and polished battle sequences, but even that feels uninspired. The cinematography captures the period well enough, but it doesn’t bring anything new or distinctive to the table. The action scenes lack tension, and the emotional beats that should hit hard instead fall completely flat. You watch it happen, but you never feel it — and that’s the biggest problem for a movie of this genre. By the time The Last Front reaches its conclusion, it’s difficult to remember how it got there. The story never manages to ground itself or connect with the audience, and the entire experience feels more like an obligation than an adventure. It’s the kind of movie that wants to be profound and stirring but ends up being neither. In the end, The Last Front is a disappointment — a film that looks the part but lacks the heart, energy, and conviction to make an impact. With a clearer focus and stronger direction, it might have been something memorable. Instead, it’s a forgettable entry in the long line of war dramas that fail to deliver the emotion and intensity that the genre demands. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/13/25 Full Review Gerald F This is worth watching. Once again its another movie where i find film critics seem detached from regular viewers Its worth watching ang appreciating for its construction. Very effective lighting in quite a few scenes Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/09/25 Full Review Audience Member this movie doesn't have nothing to do with history at all.the characters are beyond and Germans where not the 'Huns' as shown in this movie at all.I truly don't understand the message of this movie.
