      Critics Consensus

The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter wastes a promising premise and talented cast on a frustratingly uneven comedy that lacks enough laughs to forgive its narrative flaws.

Jeremy B good movie about fathers, sons and real life. it upset the hunting community because its not really about hunting Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/29/22 Full Review Audience Member It was okay. I notice they just couldn't help trying to make the kid's semi-auto sound like a full-auto though. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review aqsw d This movie was GREAT. A "real" Father and Son adventure. Beautiful country - I was thinking NE Tennessee but read it was western NC - close. I believe in hunting - when it is necessary to live and survive. This movie was very realistic. The way the father and son interacted was very real - funny - not funny - and all in between. The actors were hilarious at times - the main father actor was really great - and the life events are very real. Of the very few netflix works that mention God, I really appreciated what the father said - VERY TRUE. TO ALL THE BELIEVERS! ALL THUMBS UP! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a brilliant and heart-warming comedy, that's also very original. Highly recommend! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Unrealistic made to prove that hunting is outdated Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Awful. Bad father, a weird friend and a stupid kid. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Chris Nashawaty Entertainment Weekly The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter, like so many other Netflix movies, feels like a first draft that still could use some more punching up and focus. Rated: C+ Aug 13, 2018 Full Review Ignatiy Vishnevetsky AV Club The Legacy Of A Whitetail Deer Hunter offers only the pokiest and most rote of plots. Rated: C+ Jul 8, 2018 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com It's salvaged by a truly genuine, sometimes great performance from Josh Brolin, but he's the only reason to take a look. Rated: 2/4 Jul 6, 2018 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “Whitetail” is only an occasionally funny satire. I kind of see what Hill and McBride are shooting for (no pun intended), but it’s never silly enough, never thoughtful enough, or even clever enough to land with much conviction. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 23, 2022 Full Review Q.V. Hough Vague Visages The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter lacks true grit. Its designed to feel relatable, yet Brolins impassioned performance can only do so much to override the stock dialogue and the narratives lack of originality. Feb 20, 2022 Full Review Sean Collier Pittsburgh Magazine It's just not funny. It's earnest and heartfelt, but the jokes miss or are omitted. Rated: 4/10 Oct 17, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
