William D I like a powerful true story of redemption but The Meanest Man in Texas failed to be what it could have been. For example Clyde is in the company of two other kids and two men are murdered, one by Clyde in self defense. Racked with guilt Clyde confesses. On to the courtroom scene. One of the three kids lies and tells the DA Clyde killed the two men and he was hiding in the bushes. Off that kid goes off the witness stand. The DA is done. In comes a teenage girl bursting into court. She takes the stand. "I know Cylde didn't do it. He just wouldn't." The DA makes short work of her. "Were you there?" "No but I just know Clyde wouldn't do it." "Isn't there a warrant out for your arrest as a juevneile delinquent for running away?" "Yes." "No further questions." end of trial scene. The main character is facing life in prison or the electric chair in the trial scene. i guess the adpaters of the book in the screenplay figured the viewers of the movie wouldn't wonder about a murder trial of the main character with no defense attorney at all. What? i kid you not. No denese attorney. Just the lying kid and the DA and the silly girl. I watched the rest of it just to see how bad it would get. The fight scenes made me appreciate a professionaly staged fight scene. The repetive scnes of the guys in white hoeing in a field with guys with guns on horses looked home made. I must saw the performace of the character Captain Colt did stand out but then again what a shame to stand out in such a cast of characters that looked like they came out to play in the movie for the fun of it and delevered hokie lines that evntually brought a smile to my face for all the wrong reasons. Could thiis have been anotther Shawshank? Maybe. The story is good but the telling of it, is so bad. I cann't imgine how the author of the book feels about what this movie did to the story. What an incredible redemption story! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Jason H What a powerful story. I am a huge fam of redemption stories and this is one is incredible. I love the cinematography and actors are all very good! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/06/23 Full Review Scott d The Meanest Man in Texas is an amazing true story put together over many years by producer Brad Wilson. For some reason I had missed it when it came out just a few years ago but this movie features incredible acting performances by lead actors Mateus Ward and Jamie McShane. There are a few scenes that might be a little tough to watch and possibly be inappropriate for very young children (under 10 years), but this is a MUST SEE movie with a very inspirational ending! There is no gratuitus excessive violence added in that is not part of the actual story and the unexpected love story twist at the end was very heartwarming. I absolutely loved this movie and so glad I finally got to catch it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/20/23 Full Review Nathan I've never wrote a review for a movie before or let alone anything for that matter, but this is probably one of the best biographies àbout prison, brokeness, forgiveness, redemption, and above all God's grace. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review angie m Well considering clyde was my family, my dads first cousin, I have to say it was a very good movie. Mateus was such a good actor and did such a good job. The story line was very good and kept me interested to the very end. I had been trying to do a family tree and this helped considering my grandad was on the run and changed his last name it made it very hard to identify. Thank you.
