Critics Consensus

An effective pairing of period setting and timeless themes, The Nest wrings additional tension out of its unsettling story with an outstanding pair of lead performances.

Guy Lodge Film of the Week I watched The Nest in a fixed state of unease, shoulders tense and set forward even in a plush cinema seat, my mouth immediately drying out after each sip of my drink. Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Linda Marric The Jewish Chronicle There's something commendably old fashioned and decidedly unassuming about The Nest. Durkin's direction is both precise and admirably restrained in its depiction of an era famed for its excesses. Rated: 4/5 Sep 2, 2021 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) The Nest is a belated cautionary tale - this tainted family is a skeleton in the closet of our current socioeconomic climate. Rated: 4/5 Aug 29, 2021 Full Review Sarah Cortinaz InSession Film The Nest’s slow build-up may leave you craving more, but the fantastic performances from Law and Coon, and Durkin’s brilliant direction, will more than make up for it. Rated: B Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Ryan McQuade InSession Film It’s been almost 10 years since we last saw Sean Durkin bring us a new project, and with this welcomed return, we get a dark look at the American dream... Apr 4, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut The Nest is perhaps the first COVID-19/quarantine film without meaning to be. Its levels of isolation are deeply felt and highlighted by the lies we tell ourselves or the ones whom we hold most dear. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 2, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

susan c Two talented leads could not save this dud. I watched a good hour and still had no idea the premise. Allison the wife appears bored. Her husband Rory is a loser Grifter. The End. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Samuel K Terrible movie. I can’t believe anyone would give this a 90% much less the people who do this professionally. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Lynette B I have no idea why this movie has such a high rating from critics. I am a movie fan and like all genres of movie. The acting was great in this, but that is all that I can say that is positive. There are plot lines (hints to the house being haunted, mother that is introduced) that go nowhere and are absolutely pointless. The movie is boring and just when you think they might make some sort of point, it ends. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Max A When will I learn? A movie I’ve never heard of with top actors and 90% RT is never good. One of the worst. Oh my wife loses her movie picking privileges Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review kareenacat H Oh my goodness well let me just say I watched this because I read where it was supposed to be a great psychological thriller. Well it was not, far from it..... It bothered me how much the horse was in distress throughout the movie and being abused the night before it died.. I know it's a movie. but I cannot stand it when they show animals being hurt .. I gathered that it was her husband that hurt the horse for financial gain.. so you would think.. you waited for something to come about and nothing ever did.. I thought the mother would come home and find her daughter and all the kids passed out and stoned.. after that big drug party with about 50 kids... She calls her name, but doesn't even look if she's okay.... her digging up the horse crying was very disturbing and sad .. really disappointing whoever said it was a great psychological thriller..  it was just family drama, crazy bs and listening to the poor horse whining in distress.. it was actually more of a disturbing movie, than a thriller....the door opened, the door was closed, the door opened the door closed. And then he comes walking in a few minutes later.. oh my goodness give us at least some kind of ghost story or him trying to make her crazy....he was definitely delusionally unrealistic and quite  disturbed. I was at least hoping something was going to come of something. And nothing ever came of nothing ..lol.. and then rolled the credits .. 😂😂..
