      Critics Consensus

An effective pairing of period setting and timeless themes, The Nest wrings additional tension out of its unsettling story with an outstanding pair of lead performances.

Lynnelle . The acting was good but it is a dire film with a fairly flat plot structure that goes from chaos to chaos predictably. The spooky castle was also really unnecessary. Ultimately, the main issue was the utterly depressing plot with no cathartic relief for the audience, and without a real climax to the storyline and absolutely nothing to redeem at the end, there was sense of relief or resolution at the end leaving the audience unsatisfied. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/18/24 Full Review Ann S This movie was dreadful. The acting, etc., was good, but the storyline was horrendous! It was painful to watch, and there was no payoff at the end. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Frank P God AWFUL. THIS IS NOT A HORROR FILM or even close. It's really bad. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/11/24 Full Review Kristy H Upon watching the trailer, we felt there would be some mysterious elements to the movie. We gave it a try only to discover scenes with potential that fell flat and lacked substance. Never did figure out the horse. Overall it felt like many writers submitted their portion of the script and no one reviewed for continuity. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/07/24 Full Review Adam J Just bad. Built up to absolutely nothing. The dead horse plot theme fell on its face and was too much screen time for dead animals. Ultimately led nowhere and just ends. I have no idea what this film was trying to accomplish Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Amanda F The only thrilling part of this movie might be the nap you'll have by watching it. The acting was good but the pace was ridiculously slow and the plot went nowhere. The horse felt like a symbolic representation of the film beautiful, full of potential and then dead and buried. So many plot holes were just left wide open and untouched. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Guy Lodge Film of the Week I watched The Nest in a fixed state of unease, shoulders tense and set forward even in a plush cinema seat, my mouth immediately drying out after each sip of my drink. Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Linda Marric The Jewish Chronicle There's something commendably old fashioned and decidedly unassuming about The Nest. Durkin's direction is both precise and admirably restrained in its depiction of an era famed for its excesses. Rated: 4/5 Sep 2, 2021 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) The Nest is a belated cautionary tale - this tainted family is a skeleton in the closet of our current socioeconomic climate. Rated: 4/5 Aug 29, 2021 Full Review Sarah Cortinaz InSession Film The Nest’s slow build-up may leave you craving more, but the fantastic performances from Law and Coon, and Durkin’s brilliant direction, will more than make up for it. Rated: B Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Ryan McQuade InSession Film It’s been almost 10 years since we last saw Sean Durkin bring us a new project, and with this welcomed return, we get a dark look at the American dream... Apr 4, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut The Nest is perhaps the first COVID-19/quarantine film without meaning to be. Its levels of isolation are deeply felt and highlighted by the lies we tell ourselves or the ones whom we hold most dear. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 2, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
