Victoria Luxford BBC.com (Crowe and Gosling are brilliant together in something that sends up their tough guy images. Rated: 4/5 May 4, 2023 Full Review K. Austin Collins The Ringer What's memorable about The Nice Guys is the crew of not-so-nice kids: the 12- through 18-year-olds who seem remarkably unbothered when bumping heads with coke-addled pornographers. Aug 10, 2017 Full Review Nigel Andrews Financial Times Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe are a good match in The Nice Guys. But writer-director Shane Black's screenplay seldom strikes fire. Rated: 3/5 Dec 27, 2016 Full Review Sarah Vincent Sarah G Vincent Views Black does some of his best visual work ever in “The Nice Guys.” It may be his masterpiece. He creates a pitch perfect period piece set in 1977 Los Angeles. The composition of every scene offers a reward to eagle-eyed viewers. Jun 9, 2024 Full Review Denise Pieniazek Puesta en Escena (AR) One of the characters is apparently the talented one and the other, the unsuccessful one. However, an alternation will occur. Consequently, the conjunction of two opposite but complementary male characters is a style of the director. Matt W One of the funniest buddy cop movies ever. Would never have guessed the chemistry between the leads would be so good. Gets a bit silly at the end, but it's a silly movie, so it works. Major rewatchability. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Johannes S Amazing and funny movie in a beautiful 70s setting. Had a great time watching this flick. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review Rafi A this movie is very funny making me and my frriend laugh and stuffy you should watch this movie because its nice guys Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review Pascal R I’ve watched this movie multiple times over the last few years and I enjoy it more and more every time. It’s a refreshing take on ‘buddy comedies‘ and while it doesn’t reinvent the wheel or adds anything new to its genre, it just works. Gosling and Crowe have great chemistry what really sets the film apart from other similar films in my opinion. The only problem I see with this movie is its over complicated plot. I personally love it now having watched it at least five times but it is quite hard to follow it for your first time I believe. Otherwise I have nothing bad to say about this movie. It’s a shame the studio didn’t greenlight a sequel. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Carlos H I had heard great things about this film, but had never had the opportunity to watch it. I found myself on a rainy Sunday and finally decided to make up for the delay by watching it on Netflix. And what an excellent surprise! I had no idea that the story, the performances, the script and the direction would be so exquisite and of high quality. I don't have much to say about Ryan Gosling's talent, as I've been a big fan since Blade Runner, but I didn't know he was so versatile that he was great at comedies! Now, I can say that I have seen the two extremes that make up his versatility as an actor: drama and comedy. And now, his casting in Barbie makes perfect sense (he was the highlight of this film, too). Russell Crowe is good, as always, and I was really surprised by Matt Bomer here. And it was a pleasant surprise to see the beautiful and talented Margaret Qualley: I met her in Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, and she won me over in the series "Maid". I can't wait to see her in The Substance and more prominent roles in the future. But the one who really surprised me was the actress Angourie Rice, who plays the daughter of the protagonist played by Ryan Gosling: I already knew her from the new trilogy of Spider-Man films, but here she shined completely on par with the adult cast. The film was an excellent surprise, and I will recommend it to as many people as I can. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Test T I watched this on DVD recently. The critics seem to like it, but I wasn't keen on it at all. Crowe and Gosling definitely create some onscreen buddy chemistry which is the best part of it, but I found the story very poor. The plot is over complicated, and I really struggled to make sense of it all. The pacing is inconsistent with intense and violent action scenes interspersed with wordy narrative scenes which attempt to explain the confusing story to the audiance. There is occasional comedy too, but I found most of this fell flat amongst the many pornographic film references and the child actors playing at being detective well beyond their years. The locations around LA are good, but they're not used to best effect with some scenes appearing poorly illuminated. I tried to like this film, but every time I got close something happed to put me off. The film trys hard to combine genre's which don't fit well together, which ultimately feels forced. It's mystery, action, teen drama, buddy comedy, detective, gangster conspiracy plot is like a jack of all trades mastering none of them. In summary, the film frustrated me and I can't recommend it.
