Peter Bradshaw Guardian It's tightly plotted and contains some smart narrative shifts, but the tonal high-wire act is ultimately too ambitious for Croatian director Vinko Brean to pull off. Rated: 3/5 Apr 24, 2015 Full Review Ben Sachs Chicago Reader This maintains a bright, cartoonish tone no matter how outlandish or gruesome the story gets, with the growing disparity between form and content providing some of the better laughs. Oct 17, 2013 Full Review Vladan Petkovic Cineuropa The narrative flows without much hitches and the dramaturgy is perfectly suited to the film medium. Aug 19, 2020 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh Playback:stl I have to tip my hat to Bresan, because I was ready to hate this film (unintended pregnancy-what a funny joke!), but he's an expert judge of tone, and I ended up enjoying this sharp satire. Audience Member Ingeniosa película croata, no sobresale pero entretiene. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie starts as a satire, with a few clever touches and (kinda) humorous jokes, however, the director did not resist not to insert a huge amount of cheap shots that appeal to the low tastes (unnecessary visualization of locals having sex) and allowing for his instructive side to take over, adding a few heavy elements of drama and social engagement in the waaaayy weaker second half of the film, that are not at all harmonious. Few will not be left disappointed by the execution of this balancing act between satire and tragedy. I also hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it. The only way to save this film would be to trim 63 out of 93 minutes. Overall, a waste of good electricity. I'm not talking about the electricity between the actors. I'm talking about the current to the projector. Highlight of the movie: the yammie chipsticks that finished too soon, unlike the movie that just wouldn't end. Nikaia Private Screening Project (NPSP) Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Bright and hilarious. Unexpected ending. What way to end a story. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member PRICKS BOTH BIG AND LITTLE: My take on Jodorowsky's Dance of Reality & the new Croatian film The Priest's Children ow.ly/xwxoC Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Rende boas risadas!
