Jorge Ignacio Castillo Planet S Magazine The score is strong and the tune "Indian Man" is rousing enough to transcend the film. Unfortunately, The Road Forward as a whole is far from cohesive. Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 10, 2020 Full Review Francesca Bianco Georgia Straight Marie Clements' message is clear: art is a driving force behind reconciliation, in the same way The Native Voice circulated First Nations stories across the province-when all others cast a blind eye. Jul 21, 2017 Full Review Dorothy Woodend The Tyee (British Columbia) As a piece of Canadian history, this is already fascinating stuff. Jul 20, 2017 Full Review Ken Eisner Georgia Straight The Road Forward offers an embarrassment of riches regarding the political, cultural, and day-to-day life of Canada's First Nations people, particularly in this region. Audience Member A teacher I had made us watch this. It was definitely an… Experience. How does one even conjure the idea of a musical about Indigenous homicide? I’m not sure. It opens with the song “You’re an Indian man” so whoever is watching this knows right off the bat that this movie is going to be a wild ride and unlike anything they’ve ever seen- not necessarily in a good way. There’s some confusing visuals of businessmen in suits that I suspect is probably trying to convey some sort of weird message. This happens a lot in this movie. You’re never quite sure what’s going on- the strange visuals mixed with even stranger music causes a lot of feelings, most of which are along the lines of confusion and mild concern. I mean, hey, I watched this movie almost a year ago and I still talk about it, so I suppose it has that going for it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/25 Full Review Charlotte M I didn't like this movie. The music was awkward as heck, and poorly integrated. I found myself cringing the whole time during the opening track "Indian Man." The movie was also not coherent and too long. Finally, who thought it was a good idea to make a MUSICAL about the homicide of Indigenous peoples??? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Read all reviews
