In England, safe-cracking expert Colley Dawson (Ray Milland) chafes about working for a security firm that pays him a pittance and gets involved in the lucrative activity of breaking into wealthy homes to steal valuable art. When Colley and his partner are tracked down by Scotland Yard, the partner is accidentally killed, and Colley is sentenced to 10 years. Some years later, as World War II is at its height, Colley is approached to help break into a Belgian chateau to access vital information.
