@thatsawrap Such an interesting concept that takes the viewer on a wild ride. Each segment is daring and brave with each director exploring a very person vision. Gillian is breathtaking, an accomplished actor with so much emotional truth and range. She brings us along her journey as this road trip film explores her seven faces. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Kirk A I was excited to see this film based on my love of Gillian and Joel and Ken from Community and I was lucky enough to get a ticket to opening night. The trailer was super-intriguing with a kind of Twilight Zone / David Lynch vibe to it. What I wasn't expecting was the range of emotions I would feel watching Gillian go on this journey as Jane. Since it's multiple short stories within one larger film, it's all over the map in terms of tone. It's really heartbreaking at times. And beautiful at others. And it's just astounding how much weight Gillian is able to carry as Jane. There are still elements of this film that I haven't fully processed yet. Lastly the filmmakers gave a Q&A after the movie and it was really touching how much respect and love they have for Gillian, and how each of their stories really came from a personal place. This is not an easy popcorn movie. Some segments/stories definitely resonated more with me than others. But as a completely unique and intriguing piece of film, I can't think of anything else quite like it. If you like indy films and exposing yourself to new and different points of view, it's worth a shot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Slurpee P This movie destroyed the consistency of the Lyle Lyle crocodile franchise Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/23 Full Review Jeffrey P This is truly awful. I hate it for existing. When passing judgement on this film, there's only one thing needed to consider - Jane might be fun but this is stupid and increasingly uninteresting. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/26/23 Full Review Asim B This movie is truly a beautiful masterpiece. Noah Berlatsky Chicago Reader Despite its adventurous structure, The Seven Faces of Jane shows us features we’ve seen before. Jan 27, 2023 Full Review Amy Nicholson FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) Most of these [segments] aren't compelling on their own, but it's nice as an exercise. Jan 18, 2023 Full Review Matt Zoller Seitz RogerEbert.com I love the idea of it, I love that it exists, and I'm not sure how much I can ultimately say for or against it, considering that everything good and bad is baked into the methods that the performers and filmmakers committed to. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 16, 2023 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills I didn’t love any particular episode, and a couple I flat-out disliked. Still, Seven Faces is the kind of gamble one would like to see more of, in which the artistic dice are rolled within certain limits, the results diverse enough to hold attention... Jan 23, 2023 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall The film is gorgeously shot in a range of visual styles that create an involving kaleidoscopic journey. It may sometimes feel a bit meandering, but the approach is riveting and fresh. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 19, 2023 Full Review Tara McNamara Common Sense Media As you might expect, mixing the work of eight directors and 11 writers makes for a somewhat discombobulated story.
