Oliver Claxton New Yorker It is over-long and repetitious, and without the slightest trace of suspense. Mar 17, 2023 Full Review Wilella Waldorf New York Post All this is undoubtedly effective as far as it goes. Sep 22, 2020 Full Review Variety Staff Variety D.W. Griffith again symbolizes good and evil, meanwhile out-DeMilling DeMille in sets and Bacchanalian revels, plus liberal suggestiveness. For all of that, the picture is overshadowed in story and cast by its superb photography. Mar 26, 2009 Full Review Carl Sandburg Chicago Daily News Sorrows of Satan has the sense of vastness, chaos, originality, and sudden interludes of unimagined beauty that make Griffith so much akin, in his present stage, to Walt Whitman, the poet. Dec 14, 2021 Full Review Robert E. Sherwood LIFE [Griffith] has made some of the most flagrantly bad scenes that it has ever been my ill luck to witness; he has made other scenes of startling power. Valerii Ege D That opening scene. Angels meet at the Stairways to Heaven. Imagine that scene with today's technology and CGI. Noted for the future. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Audience Member An unusual melodrama which nevertheless stands as one of Griffithâ(TM)s most forgettable films, although perhaps the fact that this was a studio film rather than one of his independent productions can be held as a plausible reason. Menjou is good as the suave and deceitful embodiement of Satan. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
