Addiego San Francisco Chronicle The Sun Behind the Clouds is a well-made and sobering look at the current state of Tibet's battle for some degree of autonomy. Rated: 3/4 Jun 18, 2010 Full Review Mark Feeney Boston Globe For all its worthiness politically, The Sun Behind the Clouds is a lackluster film. Rated: 2/4 Apr 29, 2010 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row Structurally, The Sun Behind the Clouds is pretty straightforward, often feeling like it may feel more at home on PBS than in cinemas. Audience Member Feels like I've seen this documentary over and over again. The subject is still interesting but they need to find a new angle. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting if you want to know about what's happening in Tibet Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member "Ours is a struggle of a people. It's not a struggle of one generation or a few selected leaders...nor is it to benefit a small minority. Tibetans always say,'The Dalai Lama knows best!' ...but that's a mistake and also dangerous to depend on one person. The Chinese also say, 'Your Tibet problem is nothing. It's only dependent on one person. If that person dies, then the issue of Tibet will also die.' This is what they say but this is absolutely not true! Therefore, for generations, we must work hard and struggle. We must be prepared. That's very important." -Tenzin Gyatso (the Dalai Lama) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member 50 years of Chinese rule has fail to crush the Tibetan people and their desire for freedom. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member "Every empire rises and falls." The dilemma Tibetans have is to choose between Middle way or a more pragmatic method. The film captures the internal as well as the external complexities of the movement. The non violent tenets seems to be ineffective to have impact on international community . Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member The Tibetan struggle for independence and the Dalai Lama's attempts to find a "Middle Way" solution are explored in this documentary, which does a workmanlike job of explaining the recent history and the cultural issues involved.
