The Survivalist's deliberate pace pays gripping dividends with a tautly told post-apocalyptic drama that offers some uniquely thought-provoking twists.

Sam P A gripping drama that unfolds in the claustrophobic confines of a ramshackle wooden shack nestled in the desolate backwoods of Ireland. Set against a backdrop of a post-apocalyptic—a world starved of essential resources—this film masterfully conjures a palpable sense of desperation at the edge of humanity. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review J.E. P Horror is short for horrible here.. slowest movie ever. Annoyingly so. Beginning showed some promise. Exaggerated use of nudity here, unnecessary. Stayed til the end cause invested time already. So not worth it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review John E Mia Goth is great on screen. The movie itself is deliberately slow, and that fits the world in which the story is told. However it feels too slow to me and it drags on for too long. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/01/23 Full Review Jose Raul B Although this movie is kind of passive, i liked the artistic content that draws an explicit and hidden reality: the female behavior in extreme situations, depending on women age. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/29/23 Full Review Diana S A fine post-apocalyptic story. The acting was decent given that they might as well have been using pantomime. One of the reasons writers have characters talk to each other is so we can understand their relationships more deeply. Also so we can understand what drives them more deeply. Dialogue isn't trite, BAD dialogue is. Just a thought. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Green C So grim and mostly hopeless. A couple things made no sense. Joshua Rothkopf Time Out You'll leave completely rapt. Rated: 5/5 May 22, 2017 Full Review Katie Walsh Los Angeles Times eerie and masterful ... as riveting as it is morally confounding. May 22, 2017 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com The Survivalist...is as terrific and as suspenseful a post-apocalyptic thriller as any I'll likely see this year. Rated: 3.5/4 May 19, 2017 Full Review Edward Lawrenson The Big Issue The result is a hugely confident, mostly absorbing blend of psychodrama and apocalyptic Western. It's claustrophobic, bleakly astringent and not for all tastes -- but it marks Fingleton out as a promising new voice. Sep 21, 2023 Full Review Alexa Dalby Dog and Wolf It's an original and stunning debut for writer/director Fingleton. Rated: 4/5 May 31, 2019 Full Review Tom Bond One Room With A View The Survivalist's plot of a man living in a dangerous, post-apocalyptic world after its oil runs out feels deceptively new, but it ends up treading the same ground as countless other films, books and TV shows.
