It’s probably somewhat too stately. But it is an odd, mostly compelling yarn, and acted with gusto and shot with real physical commitment to the wide open spaces and raw chill of the elements.

The movie constantly asks, “Are the good guys really all that good?” Again, this isn’t necessarily an original concept for the Western genre, but director Elliott Lester handles the idea with grace and delicacy that make the question feel genuine.

I will say, the trailer made the film seem like it would have more high octane action, but whats in the trailer in terms of action is in the movie and nothing more. But, the writing, acting and cinematography made up for it. My wife and I really enjoyed the film, so much I actually want to read the book now.

Not sure why theres a lack of promotion for this movie. I didnt even know it was coming out. I saw it tonight and Im glad I did because its an exceptional film. The whole cast did great. Peter Dink stood out and really nailed this roll.

I love Western's! This is a great watch! Very unique, dark, & smart plot for the most part! The acting is mostly excellent especially from Peter and Juliette! The cinematography is top notch! Dark, suspenseful, moving and a fun view!

Watched it for Dinklage and Esme creed-Miles (w/ love & squalor). Fairly ludicrous at times due to poor writing and physical acts that defy, well...physics. If I bash in the face 14 times, you're not gonna jump up & pull a gun on me. But it is visually striking w/ the choices made on how it would look. Deep colors, w/ a real sense of the cold of the snowy winter setting. Another cool performance from the great Peter Dinklage. Some nice work from Juliette Lewis at times. She pulls off that 'tough ol' bird' type. 2.8 stars
