Catherine Bray Guardian It’s probably somewhat too stately. But it is an odd, mostly compelling yarn, and acted with gusto and shot with real physical commitment to the wide open spaces and raw chill of the elements. Rated: 3/5 Apr 16, 2025 Full Review William Bibbiani TheWrap The Thicket is an awful story, in a great way. Sep 6, 2024 Full Review Rex Reed Observer Juliette Lewis steals the show in a bleak, action-heavy Western that lacks the depth to match its gritty visuals. Rated: 2/4 Sep 6, 2024 Full Review Joshua Ryan Sunshine State Cineplex The movie constantly asks, “Are the good guys really all that good?” Again, this isn’t necessarily an original concept for the Western genre, but director Elliott Lester handles the idea with grace and delicacy that make the question feel genuine. Rated: 7/10 Jul 19, 2025 Full Review Christian Jones Starburst It’s a thought-provoking meditation on survival and integrity in a world teetering on the edge of collapse. Rated: 4/5 May 21, 2025 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine Fans of the rough, gritty end of the American western will have a ball with The Thicket. justin b I will say, the trailer made the film seem like it would have more high octane action, but whats in the trailer in terms of action is in the movie and nothing more. But, the writing, acting and cinematography made up for it. My wife and I really enjoyed the film, so much I actually want to read the book now. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Erin It was a really good movie. It had a really good plot and storyline. The actors and actresses did an excellent job. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Joseph S So fantastic. Dinklage is awesome, of course, but not even the best part. Levon Hawke is a revelation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Victor L Not sure why theres a lack of promotion for this movie. I didnt even know it was coming out. I saw it tonight and Im glad I did because its an exceptional film. The whole cast did great. Peter Dink stood out and really nailed this roll. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/06/24 Full Review Sam W. I didn’t hate it. It just reminded me of Game of Thrones in all the bad ways. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/03/25 Full Review Lorne R Like a lot of people here, I love movies. I love B-movies, I love action flicks, I love high-concept films that take risks. The Thicket grabbed me from the very first frame and never let go. I was completely mesmerized from start to finish. It’s rare to see a film balance grit, beauty, and heart so perfectly—every scene felt alive and deliberate. The story is wild and deeply human at the same time. It moves fast, but never loses its sense of purpose. The direction is bold and masterful, the cinematography stunning, and the performances absolutely top-tier. Juliette Lewis delivers a performance so powerful and unpredictable that it left me stunned—honestly the best I’ve ever seen from her. Peter Dinklage anchors the movie with quiet intensity, and the whole cast brings a level of energy you just don’t see often anymore. I’m honestly shocked this film didn’t sweep awards season. It’s that good. Visually striking, emotionally raw, and impossible to shake. One of the few films I wanted to watch again immediately after I finished it. Five stars without hesitation.
