Scott Weinberg TheHorrorShow Recommended solely to open-minded Lovecraft nuts who can overlook some rough spots and focus on an earnest attempt at adapting a notoriously difficult author. Aug 22, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews

Henry B This film is all mood and little else. It's only valuable to those who are Lovecraft fans who have already read the story. However, the acting is competent and the sets are, as well. Special effects are negligible and this is obviously a very low-budget effort. Of course, it's challenging to adapt Lovecraft to film. If you want to see a better example of a Lovecraft adaptation, check out "Dagon" - which is an adaptation of Lovecraft's "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", but set in Spain as opposed to Massachusetts. I have yet to see a better Lovecraft presentation. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/26/24 Full Review Annette J Unengaging. Strained unrealistic dialog. Sparse special effects. But the worst thing was the "artsy" overexposed lighting that made every light source glare as if your pupils had been dilated, and the green and yellow tints that made it look like it was filmed throat 7 Up bottle alternating with a urine sample. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Audience Member I could make a better movie with a 2005 phone and my 6 cats. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I understand many will not consider this film "polished" or "professional" but it is an excellent and mature film adaption of H.P. Lovecraft's original short story. It is truly a good film that should be given a chance without the expectation of massive budget and extensive CGI (FX alone is not a measure of a good film BTW). If you love cosmic horror or a lover of Lovecraft's work...this is a film for you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Most of the scenes are suffused with a bright glow. This might be a good look for, say, a Swedish furniture commercial but for an HP Lovecraft film, not so much. All the characters seem pretty detached from one another without a drop of chemistry in sight. There's not one dominant personality to be seen, not even the antagonist, who is given surprisingly little screen time. Some of the characters are supposed to be involved with the black arts but their hobby may as well be stamp collecting for the little focus that's put on it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member As with most Lovecraft tales, it is very difficult to fully realize this story on film. But a very good attempt nonetheless.
