Andy Klein Associated Press I admit we've seen this story a million times in a million forms, but I thought it was nicely done and funny when it meant to be. Feb 13, 2024 Full Review Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com A movie that has a couple of amusing moments and nice visual flourishes but not nearly enough to combat the resounding mediocrity of the storytelling. Rated: 2/4 Feb 2, 2024 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News The animation is less surefooted at the start in a prologue set in Hong Kong, but it quickly improves when the action shifts to San Francisco, gloriously re-created. The vocal cast is mighty impressive and includes the ever-busy Michelle Yeoh. Rated: 3/4 Feb 1, 2024 Full Review Rachel Wagner Rachel's Reviews (YouTube) The action can be well done but the story and characters aren't compelling Jan 15, 2025 Full Review Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz The Tiger's Apprentice is so obviously assembled from ideas from other, better films that even the occasional visual flourish isn't enough to elevate the finished product into anything you'll ever be particularly happy you saw. Rated: 2.5/5 Apr 14, 2024 Full Review Luke Goodsell ABC News (Australia) Despite the film's generic take on its source material, there's more than enough colour, energy and rapid-fire action to keep younger viewers engaged. Andrew T I've never read the novel this was based on, but "The Tiger's Apprentice" was still an enjoyable animated feature to me nevertheless. The anime-influenced animation was very creative, the use of the Chinese Zodiac animals was clever, it was action-packed and funny, and it had plenty of heart. The all-Asian voice cast also made the movie feel very authentic and respectful to its community and culture it is honoring, with every actor (particularly Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh) playing their parts so well. The soundtrack was also really fun and exciting, and I especially loved the cover of "Eye of the Tiger". It was a ton of fun to listen to. I feel like the only things that could've been done better were explaining what happened to Tom and Rav's respective biological parents and why the Zodiac animals are protectors of Tom's family. Occasionally, this movie made me think of both "Kung Fu Panda" and "Onward", but those similarities aren't that significant enough for me to be critical of the movie to the point where I have to tear this movie apart for its negative traits. I'd definitely recommend it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/25 Full Review Julian V I don’t hate this movie I love zodiac animals though my zodiac animal is dog but I know it is a bad movie with that doesn't fully utilize its rich mythology or character depth though it is 5/10 to me I wish this movie was in cinemas instead on paramount + I hope part 2 is better Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review Davey C Spoiler warning: I thought it was pretty cool no doubt.i would probably buy it if it comes out on DVD.
