Ash P Well, time for the sequel of the original, and I have to say, it is kind of a downgrade with not only some of the characters but with the story, as well. After seeing where Melvin was going, it felt like it had two stories mashed into one. Well, what are the stories, exactly? An evil corporation known as Apocalypse Inc. rolls into town to get rid of the Toxic Avenger, played by John Altamura, and voiced by Ron Fazio. Fun fact: Ron Fazio also portrays as an executive of Apocalypse Inc. They first blew up this Tromavilla Center for the Blind and sent in various goons to go after Melvin but failed. Their next plan, which worked for a bit, is to use one of their "bad girls" to be Melvin's psychologist, convincing him to search for his father. After talking to his girlfriend, Claire, played by Phoebe Legere, he decides to travel to Japan by sea to search for his father. While Melvin searches for his father in Japan, he befriends a woman named Masami, played by Mayako Katsuragi and dubbed by Patricia Kaufman, Apocalypse Inc. takes over Tromaville while causing chaos. Well, I guess I can go ahead and share one of my big cons of this movie, and it's the antagonists of the movie. They're not really that threatening as an evil corporation behaves. They're more juvenile, if you ask me. Even the chairman, played by Rick Collins, isn't that threatening at all. Sure, they beat up old folks, homeless folks, ran over this couple in this horse carriage, including the horse, branded their company sigil on kid's foreheads, and various other deeds. They're just juveniles. I mean, if anything, they're the grifting community of the 80s, if you ask me. Well, at least Melvin still kicks butt not only with Apocalypse Inc.'s goons, but any bad people over in Japan. Because, let's be honest, evil exists no matter where you live. I do like his little interactions with Masami. I think she is a fun character. Until there are times when she makes herself act stupid. Same for Claire. (I don't know why she's called Claire instead of Sara. My guess is that there was an error during production or something). But Claire herself is kind of a ditz. Granted, Claire does throw a punch or two, but that was at the last twenty minutes of the movie. At least she still loves Melvin, though. Some other moments have been fun like this Japanese Newscaster, played by Tsutomu Sakine, just doing his own business while Melvin takes care of one of the people who harassed Masami at the TV station. He's like me sometimes. The reveal of Melvin's father was a decent surprise without spoiling too much about them. Story aside, what about everything else? Well, the action is still dumb fun that you'd shut your brain off along with some of the humor. Least the Japanese were treated right when it comes to representation in the 80s in this, if y'all know what I mean. But for an R rated movie, why are most of the fight sequences filled with cartoon sound effects that have existed since so long ago? I might have to guess that they wanted it to make the movie a little more family-friendly. Which would not make sense since this is still a gorey movie. But I digress. I also couldn't help but think the costume John was wearing is just different compared to the last movie. Even the designs on some of the costumes don't give that much of a flair that much. Maybe it's because of how the characters behave? Still, this was an okay sequel to the Toxic Avenger as it has its moments while having problems of its own. We haven't touched on the last two movies. We'll see if they hold out evenly as this movie has done for me. I'm gonna give Melvin's sequel five and a half Melvin traveling on a windsurfboard out of ten. 5.5/10. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/25 Full Review Justin T I actually thought that this was better than the original as it was a lot more violent and the silly humour was accented so much more. This is definitely not for the faint hearted as the violence is strong but the overall tone of the film is light and silly - especially the reggae dancing in the streets which is so funny. A worthy sequel to a stupid film. Watch it if you have seen the first film but probably never again. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/10/25 Full Review John C 'The Toxic Avenger Part II' is a gloriously wild ride, packed with deliberately over-the-top gore, inventive practical effects and a wicked sense of humor. It’s the kind of film that thrives on its excess making sure it never displays any hint of good taste to deliver an outrageous experience. As long as you’re not easily offended and are in the mood for something ridiculous, you’re in for a great time. The film’s biggest strength lies in its over-the-top set pieces and sharp, absurd dialogue, which make for some genuinely hilarious moments. However, at a bloated two-hour runtime, it’s hard to ignore how some scenes overstay their welcome. A leaner edit would have enhanced the pacing, ensuring the best parts shone even brighter. Despite this drawback, 'The Toxic Avenger Part II' remains a cult classic for a reason. If you’re into the unapologetically outrageous gross-out horror fests, this sequel delivers exactly what you’d hope for. Although I can't see our mutated hero ever fitting in with Thor and Captain America's 'Avengers' line-up! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Daniel C. M Gonna be completly honest, enjoyed this one much more than 4. Cheap and dumb fun, genuinely funny at times. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review chris h Why are these even made Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/05/23 Full Review Josh G Stack your boiled eggs and strap in for a complete bonkers experience in part of the toxic avenger. there bad guys, dancing in the streets, blood and wind surfing. this is a wild one, so nuts no words can describe this film.
