Audience Member This movie had some potential, but the narrator is kind of insufferable on film. I'm sure he's a great writer, but the documentary didn't really have a focus... He goes from his personal journey, to the history of hoodoo, to the practices of hoodoo, to jazz music, and then back to his personal story, which is all kind of erratic. I did like the ritual that he filmed in Sallie Ann Glassman's peristyle, but the rest of it didn't really focus on hoodoo; it focused more on African influences in American art. This is, of course, interesting in its own right and can't be separated from West African religion, but I would have liked to see more actual hoodoo in the documentary.
