Edward G I really loved this Movie. Very creepy. I saw it twice and want to see it again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/16/23 Full Review Enigma X First half of the movie is interesting but the second half is absurd, depressing, and boring. Skipped about 30 minutes of the movie because it was so boring. James character makes no sense in the second half and the ending is scientifically impossible. (one hand on the head? yeah right. his survival instincts would have kicked in and he would have thrashed back up or swam down and away. the guy was huge) Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/23 Full Review Emilliano S One of a kind ending! Can't believe Gerard Butler can act. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/24/23 Full Review S R Another half baked drama that started good and fell apart towards the end. I kept wondering what I could have done to fix the plot and how things progressed could have been been more positive or interesting. It was sad. Saw it on Netflix. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/23 Full Review Richard L The Lighthouse for people who couldn't stand watching The Lighthouse. Atmospheric, slow, and with a focus on character, but very little to unpack a very straightforward script. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/23 Full Review T T This is a good movie. The only problem I have with it is the "inspired by true events" part. In reality, the only true events are the tiniest part of the movie: that 3 lighthouse keepers disappeared. That's it. The rest is just wild hyperbole, conjecture and pure fiction. That said, it's good and enjoyable fiction. I just think it's kind of misleading to imply that this is what really happened since nobody could corroborate any of the events in the movie, except for the disappearance of 3 lighthouse keepers- period. Bearing that in mind, I liked this well-acted and dark movie. I especially thought Gerard Butler's performance was good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Amy Nicholson FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) A nice little thriller to warm you up on the weekend. Sep 13, 2019 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review A well organized thriller that just ratcheted up tension in the right way. Apr 2, 2019 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) The ending is savage, but the real surprise is in the performance of Butler. Rated: 4/5 Apr 2, 2019 Full Review Jim Ross TAKE ONE Magazine THE VANISHING is an effective thriller, featuring well-pitched performances from the leads, an appropriately lean script, and probably the first ever instance of Chekhov's Crab Rope. Feb 13, 2020 Full Review Steven Sheehan The Digital Fix Confident direction, a strong cast and an intense setting turn this into an extremely watchable thriller. Rated: 7/10 Feb 6, 2020 Full Review Javier Perez Cine Premiere The Vanishing leaves several loose ends that end up making the story not completely rounded.
