Audience Member "They [NATO] hit [bombed] the cigarette factory in Nisu three times. And it ended up being purchased by Phillip Morris. Well, if I walk into a supermarket with a hammer and start smashing stuff, and then say 'look, I'll pay you a pittance for the remains', I'm a viking or a vandal. [....] Obviously Phillip Morris had an issue with the cigarette factory in Nisu. It was one of their main competitors in the European market." "Almost the entire banking system in Kosovo was handed over to Germany's Commerzbank A.G." American/NATO and German/EU imperialism/monopoly capitalism. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent film, documenting the break-up of the former Yugoslavia. Really worth watching on the subject. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I have always been interested in the conflicts that occurred in the former Yugoslavia, even though this is claimed to be a documentary, It is only one sided and blatantly bias. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting try to show the role of the "International community" in the breakup of ex Yugoslavia. Probably there is some truth in it (economic interest, military lobby, NATO, etc.), but the documentary is far-stretched in explaining historic facts from within ex Yugoslavia. Causality between most of the events is misinterpreted and even though the movie points out the power of propaganda in conflicts, its intention and the way it was produced is not far from propaganda. A poor try of allegedly independent author and other individuals participating to present the answer to "why it happened". Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member A well made documentary on fall of the former Yugoslavia. Made me very upset. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This outstanding Canadian documentary film directed by Boris Malagurski, analyses the role that the United States, NATO and the European Union played in the breakup of Yugoslavia. The poster says "...and you thought you knew WHY it happened..." and I bet NONE of you knew it then or now - or simple truth is that most of people just do not care! The narrative, PERSONAL style of Malagurski added much to the value of this exceptionally well made documentary which shows the best possible research I've seen in my long history of dealing with documentaries. The story starts with a brief history of Yugoslavia, explaining the idea of Yugoslavia and how it came to exist and what happened in Yugoslavia during World War II and how Josip Broz Tito's Yugoslavia was formed. After Tito's death it became a target of many countries and the author moves on to explain what happened to the Yugoslav economy in the 1980s, with specific mention of Ronald Reagan's National Security Decisions Directive 133 from 1984, which presents U.S. interests in Yugoslavia as promoting the "trend towards a market-oriented Yugoslav economic structure". Of course, most US citizens were never aware that the former CIA departments, now renamed National Endowment for Democracy in Yugoslavia were connected to the formation of G17 Plus who managed to privatise through liquidation most of the country had developed and acquired through its independence... everything is explained in a plastic manner, and it was a major cause for the rise of tensions in the late 80s and early 90s, further orchestrated by Foreign Operations Appropriations Act 101-513, enacted during the George H. W. Bush era... Every single document quoted and shown, every single statement supported by experts and people who were actually there, from US generals to the real victims of this new type of colonisation, Malagurski's extraordinary work carries a lots of weight! And that is why there is a slim chance you'll be allowed to watch it. It has been removed from most of the places where you could download it... the film was even included in the 2011 programme of Serbian film director Emir Kusturica's Küstendorf Film and Music Festival - however, two days before the festival opened, on the same day as Serbian Minister of Culture Nebojsa Bradić was due to speak at a press conference the film was removed from the Festival schedule without any explanation! If you believe in any kind of freedom, watch it and wake up! Because you part of the world could be the next! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
