RICHARD S Jun 5 Excellent cast, well done film. Should have been in technicolor. Could have been more dancing by Nelson, less by Cagney. Day, as always, charming and wonderful doing her musical stuff and well cast. Mayo, too, incredibly beautiful playing well off Cagney. MacRae at his youthful best as a naive cadet well cast with Day. Worth a Sunday afternoon! See more 11/04/2014 A very unique, though equally silly, musical, starring incredibly talented James Cagney. He had wonderful rapport both with Virginia Mayo (whom he worked with on White Heat) and the relative showbiz newcomer Doris Day. Pedestrianly directed, it would have fallen flat in a lesser cast's hands, but is raised by the charm, charisma and talent involved to a fine level.
