Richard Brody New Yorker The pace is an anti-ornamental affectation that artificially distends an hour's worth of action. May 22, 2017 Full Review Dave White TheWrap Diaz has made an epic-length small film about the powerless, one full of moral urgency that he chooses to elongate and slow down to a crawl. It's a quiet consideration of grief and mercy, of control taken and freely given up. May 19, 2017 Full Review Scout Tafoya RogerEbert.com That a film this busy can find such focus in its closing moments says that whatever Diaz's methods of inspiration and creation, he knows exactly what he's doing. Rated: 3/4 May 19, 2017 Full Review Oggs Cruz Rappler Ang Babaeng Humayo is a bleak and blistering portrait of the human condition. Jul 18, 2019 Full Review Lorenzo Esposito Cinema Scope There's no hope in The Woman Who Left, merely the image of what disappears. Dec 30, 2017 Full Review Filipe Freitas Film Threat Simultaneously bleak and illuminated, The Woman Who Left is not just about revenge, moral integrity, and opportunity. It's about life...a life you didn't choose to live but you are compelled to. Rated: 7/10 Nov 15, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member A perfect movie from start to finish. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Diaz creates a compelling and tragic revenge tale despite its long running time, with a beautiful cinematography and great performances, even if he continues to show a disdain for pacing and makes his film seem unfocused before Horacia and Hollanda become friends. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Lav Diaz is a maximalist. Ang Babaeng Humayo, in its four hour monochromatic glory, is contained and concise while keeping its extreme power to touch souls and ability to immerse the audience in an uncomfortable journey. You are not actually watching it. You are experiencing it. I was drenched in despair and never-ending thirst for hope while watching each scene; however, there is no hope for everyone. The darkness of the film is like an endless pit of suffering. On the other hand, Charo (Horacia in the film) is powerhouse on her own. If Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis (an 8-hour fil by Diaz shown approximately 6 months ago) is about characters seeking redemption, the characters in this film have none. As the last scene portrayed, we are all trapped in an empty and vicious cycle. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Lav Diaz is a maximalist. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Brilliantly entertaining Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Strong yet melodramatic. There's a reason why Diaz's films are too lengthy; and all of them are worthy to watch. This may not be as long as his last one, Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis, but if you love his films and if you're a fan of his work, you'll definitely love this too.
