Joseph B Slow and depressing. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/11/23 Full Review Audience Member I've spent enough time in Appalachia to understand some of the difficulties faced by people raised in that area and have seen and known many from the days of my youth in Cincinnati, the Western root of the culture that inhabits the foreboding yet startlingly beautiful countryside East to the Carolinas. Having left now 40 years ago I return to the memories with a better understanding. Life lived close to the land has it's values. Life is tragedy, always has been and will probably always be because it's what humans are at core, but sometimes a light shines through a little. This is a tender story about that light. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The world made straight is it OK film with some good performance is an interesting story. Unfortunately the movie never really focus as much on the history aspect resulting in some dull scenes. The film had bigger ambitions but I think it needed a bigger director and a bigger budget. Still it’s an interesting little film but I think many people will enjoy a quick watch, Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/30/20 Full Review gerald h its just a story. but boy do they all act well. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The film's world and characters are interesting. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting aspects but missing a core. Feeling certain parts tamed down, especially teacher Leonard's story. He mostly just sits around reading. Dina's story not easy to understand. Guessed some of the historical story. Acting and production are top notch. Accents not easy to understand. Basically I guess it's very hard to like these people. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Tirdad Derakhshani Philadelphia Inquirer The film illustrates how the most powerful and welcome stabilizing forces in human life - history, family, geography - can turn so easily into deadly traps. Rated: 3/4 Jan 13, 2015 Full Review Sheri Linden Los Angeles Times A strong sense of place emerges, if not a consuming narrative, as the filmmaker strains to connect a 1970s coming-of-age story to historical records and bigger thematic arcs - namely, bloodlines and bloodshed in a rural community. Jan 8, 2015 Full Review Ben Kenigsberg New York Times An overcooked adaptation of a novel by Ron Rash. Jan 8, 2015 Full Review Q.V. Hough Vague Visages "'The World Made Straight' is essentially a poor man's 'Out of the Furnace'... Still, it's a memorable spotlight for the always-mesmerizing Minka Kelly." Jun 30, 2022 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens A microcosmic microscopic examination of introspection...a slow, methodical, atmospheric burn that celebrates the gravitas of performances from the likes of Jeremy Irvine and Noah Wyle. Dec 14, 2019 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Gets drunk on its own solemn resonance and turns its intriguing elements of tragic fate and warps them into eye crossed foolishness.
