Divorcee Dottie Ingels (Julie Kavner) works in retail, but she really wants to make it as a comedienne. After receiving an inheritance, Dottie decides it's now or never, and moves to New York City with her children, Erica (Samantha Mathis) and Opal (Gaby Hoffmann). Before long, Dottie finds success on the stand-up circuit. Unfortunately, this leaves little time to care for her daughters. When Dottie begins to date her manager, Arnold Moss (Dan Aykroyd), it's the last straw for Erica and Opal.

What's new about This is My Life is that it's an argument between the two points of view -- with the mother and her daughters each demanding their own rights. There is humor in this approach, and also some truth. Go to Full Review

12/28/2018 this movie is so under-rated by it 38% rating. It's funny and moving and realistic about mother-daughter relationships. A fun watch See more Frances H 07/11/2014 Some good dialogue and pleasant story, but somehow. it just doesn't quite make it to the really good. See more 02/10/2014 A funny and honest film about a rise to fame and true mother-daughter relationships. See more 06/18/2010 A little forgettable, but I liked what I saw of it. See more 02/19/2010 The stand-up comedy bits are not funny, but it's a decent drama about a mother who becomes famous and her relationship with her two daughters. She's known for the voice of Marge Simpson. However, I think she pulled it off pretty well. The little subplots in the movie actually take away from the story itself which the two children do a great job holding together. See more Read all reviews
