Audience Member Lovely Esther Williams and Van Johnson film. Not too many water sequences and no big numbers. But enjoyable for certain! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member sends me into sugar shock its so sweet n wholesome Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Pleasant Esther Williams romance, with the usual mashup of classical and pop music ("I Should Care"), courtesy of producer Joe Pasternak; Met star Lauritz Melchior's feature film debut. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member When I think of Ester Williams I think of the water version of a Busby Berkeley musical. Well, not here, and I found Ester Williams not that off as an actor. Actually, enjoyable. I also loved hearing Lauritz Melchior, the opera singer popular in the fifties, and loved by my mother. Worth a rental or an afternoon. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member You wouldn't believe how much teased I've got for watching these Esther Williams-flicks. They are certainly no masterpieces but I still find they enjoyable to watch for some reason. Perhaps because it always looks like the people on the screen is havning such a hell of a good time that I feel envious and wish that I could go back in time and be there, in the 1940s, wearing fancy dresses and swimsuits and diving into a swimming pool! That would be nice! Don't you think. But now to the movie.... Esther plays this character Cynthia Glenn who had just gotten married to a rich but not so romantic guy who had to go to Washington for some business the first day on their honeymoon, so Cynthia is left there alone on this tropic hotel. But soon she falls for another guy, very different from her husband, who was staying at the same hotel. But what to do when husband comes back...??? (take a guess...) Don't expect many watershows from Esther (á la Bathing Beauty) in this, cause here it really is the musical performances that are the highlights. Lauritz Melchior is the danish opera singer that plays the danish opera singer Nils Knudsen that tried so hard to diet but couldn't resist all the delicious desserts that hotel was all the time offering. Jimmy Dorsey was also there and stood for the entertainment during the dinner. But what impressed me the most was the little girl who played Jimmy Dorsey´s daughter (though wasn't in real life) and was playing a Jimmy Dorsey-composition of Liszt's second hungarian rhapsody. Not the orgiginal, but still very very very advanced stuff, specially for a little girl. Was very impressed. Yeah, yeah, I know, Esther isn't much of an actress, but what she does, she does really good in her movies (that is watershows :)Has some entertaining value for me so I give this 70%. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member ** (out of four) Pretty typical Esther Williams fluff where she falls for a dashing man, played by Van Johnson. Along with a big group of singers and swingers, the group tear it up at Yosemite National Park in California. Nothing too inspiring here.
