London is being ravaged by the Blitz, but the performers at the Music Box Theatre refuse to shut down and never miss a performance. While performing at the club one night, singer Rosalind Bruce (Rita Hayworth) meets RAF pilot Paul Lundy (Lee Bowman), and, while Paul is smitten by Rosalind, she is less willing to get involved. Eventually she succumbs to his charms and the two fall in love, but the stress of loving a fighter pilot during the war may be too much for Rosalind to handle.

Georgan G Interesting premise with the blitzkrieg as a background. A couple of good songs, but overal a below average musical. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/17/24 Full Review Searle K This is a real curate's egg of a musical film. Some great choreography (Jack Cole, who dances in it too), an unusual London WW2 setting, Rita Hayworth at her prime, outstanding technicolor and production design, with some sense of real adult feelings at times. On the other hand it's fake (were there no Brits in London during the War?), corny and a bit clunky. But you can sense here a smaller studio (Columbia) that is experimenting with the backstage form, and trying to achieve something beyond the stereotypical Grable musicals of the time at Fox. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Inspiring wartime musical based on London's Windmill Theatre; lovely score didn't produce any hits, but the song "Anywhere" was nominated for an Oscar. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member another winner from Rita but no "Gilda" Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member 63/100. There is nothing extra ordinary about this musical. The plot is familiar, although the London blitz setting is a plus. The musical numbers are good but nothing special, although Rita Hayworths's "Anywhere" number is memorable. Good score. The color cinematography is a plus, overall though it's rather ordinary. Good support from Janet Blair and Florence Bates. Look for a very young Shelley Winters as a chorus girl. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
