Audience Member ... ... end already?!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member This is, obviously, a Japanese film, so I would like to apologize if I come across as biased because I am American. That aside, I found Library Wars to be an engaging film based off of an equally as engaging manga and novel series. Set in the very near future Japan, this is a story about how the libraries refuse to comply with the strict censorship policies that limit the free speech of Japan's citizens, and how the library's special forces protect the books within so that the public can have access to all media freely. The story has been compared to Ray Bradbury's classic novel: Fahrenheit 451, as both pertain to the government's enactment of censorship upon free speech. I found the casting to be spot on, and the acting itself to be believable; true to the characters that the actors portrayed. The soundtrack is good, if not a little repetitive; and the special effects are excellent. The basic premise of the story gets across, and as most movies does not follow the books to the letter. The changes were minor; however. This movie captured my interest and held me to the end, with only a few (relatively) small plot-holes that could have been addressed to break the flow, even during the slower parts of the movie. As a whole, Library Wars is an excellent movie that I would recommend to anyone with a taste for justice-bringing action, cute romance, and a story with a lesson. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Message of this movie is always worth remembering. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member It captures the manga quite well. The movie has such a peculiar balance of that school girl shojo romance and blatant violence. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member I suspect fans of the source material would get a lot more out of this than someone like myself who have no frame of reference at all. As a result there's a lot that seems ridiculous or otherwise missing from the plot, with stock-standard character troupes (in a Japanese sense). Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This would only work in a Japanese movie. Takes itself seriously enough to get its point across without crossing too far over the edge of the ridiculous. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
