Thirty-five years after the shocking murder of three teens, the infamous "Sweet Sixteen Killer" returns on Halloween night to claim a fourth victim. Seventeen-year-old Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) ignores her overprotective mom's (Julie Bowen) warning and comes face-to-face with the masked maniac and, on the run for her life, accidentally time travels back to 1987, the year of the original killings. Forced to navigate the unfamiliar and outrageous culture of the 1980s, Jamie teams up with her teen mom (Olivia Holt) to take down the killer once and for all, before she's stuck in the past forever.

It’s a mix of masked murderers and social satire, as Jamie has to navigate the “problematic” new world she finds herself in. Nahnatchka Khan’s movie is slight but enjoyable, and Mad Men star Shipka is a deft horror heroine.

Totally Killer is a wild ride that mixes classic slasher horror with a clever time-travel twist. It’s self-aware like Scream, but still manages to be genuinely tense and scary. The movie balances humor and suspense perfectly—funny without being over-the-top, and scary without feeling exhausting. Some scenes are hard to watch because the tension is so well done. The main character is easy to root for, and the mystery keeps you guessing until the end. It respects slasher rules while twisting them in fresh ways. Overall, it’s thrilling, smart, and messy in the best way—a perfect pick for anyone who loves horror with personality.

I don't often write five-star reviews, but this one truly deserves it. The acting performances were outstanding, bringing genuine emotion to each scene. The storyline was imaginative yet intentionally over-the-top and cheesy, yet somehow the filmmakers managed to make it entertaining, enjoyable, and laugh-out-loud funny!
