Andy Webster New York Times Ms. Pappas has little dialogue, but the camera adores her expressive, wide-eyed face, which conveys plenty. May 11, 2017 Full Review Ben Sachs Chicago Reader None of these developments carry much dramatic weight, yet the film is light and affable, with a few modest laughs and good observational detail about athletic training and the lives of aspiring Olympians. May 11, 2017 Full Review Craig D. Lindsey Village Voice I wished Pappas had tapped deeper into the dark side she hints at - the side that makes her protagonist more concerned about being a winner than about being a person. May 11, 2017 Full Review Stephen Saito Moveable Fest For someone used to winning, Pappas - and Teicher - find a different way to use the adjective with this major crowdpleaser. Nov 1, 2018 Full Review Chloe Walker Film Inquiry Tracktown is a cutesy, generic, unfunny indie film, with an overgrown infant at its centre, and only the most surface-level interest in any of its other characters or themes. May 18, 2017 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue The breezy film can't quite go the distance with its string of earnest platitudes and distracting contrivances. Audience Member Godawful mess. Was this movie only made to massage the massive egos of the writers/producers/actors? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Plumb Marigold, a socially inept girl with a learning disability, is born and raised in Eugene Oregon a.k.a. Tracktown USA. Her parents, recognizing that she will struggle in society with these mental challenges, realize that people in this town won't judge her as long as she can run fast. Over the course of her life the parents make her a slave to track and field and manipulate her into believing that this is her actual desire. Her entire life consists of working out eating lots of healthy calories and sleeping inside a hypoxic tent cage. After two decades of this charade, her mother can't take it anymore and moves away. While she realizes making her daughter a track slave was a mistake, her fears of what will happen to Plumb keep her from telling her the truth. Instead she runs away and the whole family agrees to the narrative that she is just "a bad mom." One day, due to a track injury, Plumb is allowed to freely roam the streets of Eugene. As she does, a young man from the local bakery takes an interest in her. Due to her lack of judgment she finds him charming and sleeps with him, but the unfortunate reality is that he's just a skeez-ball with a trash stash looking to get laid. Concerned that she will learn of a world outside of her slave life. Her father reminds her that doing anything other than running, eating, and sleeping in hypoxic cages is bad, and in a weird way as a viewer you almost agree with him, given her terrible judgement of men. The film ends with her running a race, fully recommitted to being willful track slave. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Not quit my cup of tea. A little too emo, touchy, feely. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Concept is good one. But we hated the way sex was treated. Here you have this uber dedicated young woman seeking her dream. The movie spends most of its time showing you her dedication and worry. Yet, the "love interest" basically totally discounts her dream and pressures her into sex....makes her feel badly about wanting to stay within her training regiment. AND then, birth control is not even mentioned. She's a virgin. Just so missed the mark here. Other points; acting was fairly weak and the love interest was miscast. If you're not interested in track running, you'll be bored. Why eat a raw egg? takes 1 minute to cook one?? Just "okay". Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Horrible! I was highly disappointed by the focus on sex instead of achieving her running goals. What a waste and bad example of a guy distracting a girl from success rather than being on the sidelines and supporting her! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Fantastic film that gives insight to the running world, while focusing on the personal development of a rising track star. Alexi Pappas did a wonderful job as Plumb Marigold, a shy Olympic hopeful who still lives with her single dad. Andy Buckley (The Office) plays the dad, a running aficionado who helps organize 5Ks and falls asleep to film of track races. Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live) plays the estranged mother with signs of mental illness who is trying to build a relationship with her daughter. Chase Offerle plays a local bakery boy that Plumb has a crush on. The film explores Plumb's relationship between these three characters over only several days between Olympic trials. The intermittent quotes narrated by Pappas gave a fun insight into the thought process of Plumb. Absolutely worth watching! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
