When his father is caught up in a dispute between ranchers and homesteaders, Gene (Gene Autry) sides with the homesteaders, which promptly gets him banished. He joins a medicine show run by Dr. Parker (George Hayes) and hits the road. Returning five years later, he finds that his father has been murdered and an old friend of his has been accused of the crime. Gene and his cohort, Smiley (Smiley Burnette), must find the real killer while singing a few songs along the way.

Audience Member Historically important as the first "singing cowboy" film; Autry sings "That Silver-Haired Daddy of Mine." Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member 64/100. Gene Autry's first starring western is a good one. Some fine cinematography, good music with solid action scenes. Short and sweet, one of Autry's better films.
