Alain E @AlainE 1d A real gem depicting the lives of working class Londoners, who try but fail to find a way out. The period is between the two world wars and most of the characters are connected by a pub. One of the girls slides into prostitution, the other refuses to compromise and marry a much older gentleman, so she ends up alone. The bar waiter eventually gives up on finding success on solid land and boards a ship. Melancholy characterizes what is happening. The acting and cinematography are excellent. On Tubi. Based on books by the same author who wrote Rope and Gaslight. See more 08/25/2009 Centered on a London bar in the 1930s, this is a trilogy of films that tells stories of unrequited love through the perspective, first of the barman, second of the prostitute he is in love with, and third of the bartender who is in love with him. The period reconstruction and the acting are excellent. See more Read all reviews
