Generally poorly executed 1930's drama that never quite convinces as it struggles to break from various contrived elements and it's constantly grating dialogue, despite a wonderful performance from Sally Hawkins in part three, that threatens to redeem the whole thing.

Centered on a London bar in the 1930s, this is a trilogy of films that tells stories of unrequited love through the perspective, first of the barman, second of the prostitute he is in love with, and third of the bartender who is in love with him. The period reconstruction and the acting are excellent.
