Pauline Kael New Yorker Truffaut’s most engaging quality -- his tender, easy acceptance of life -- defeats him here. Sep 21, 2023 Full Review David Denby The Atlantic [Léaud] has the gentleness which is characteristic of Truffaut’s work, but in this case it's unimpressive. Jun 21, 2022 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times It's wonderful how offhand Franois Truffaut's best films feel. There doesn't seem to be any great effort being made; he doesn't push for his effects, but lets them flower naturally from the simplicities of his stories. Rated: 4/4 Oct 23, 2004 Full Review David Elliott Chicago Daily News Ardent fans of François Truffaut have often wished that he would give us another Jules and Jim. Now, 11 years after that masterwork, the great French director has obliged with Two English Girls. Oct 3, 2023 Full Review Diane Carson KDHX (St. Louis) A fascinating emotional study of restrained twentieth century manners and complex romantic maneuvers. Aug 30, 2021 Full Review Ángel Luis Inurria El Pais (Spain) This is one of the films that most embodies Truffaut's obsessions, and it is a true exercise in style. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/08/24 Full Review Audience Member (G) 7.8 [François Truffaut] Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This is probably the most elegant, beautiful, and erotic of all the films in Truffaut's pantheon of work. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Peculiar, and long, and yet it stays with you. The Welsh countryside is a beautiful contrast with Paris, and the characters natural to those environments have interactions that keep you interested. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Leisurely Truffaut film is well-acted but the matter-of-fact narrative is, at times, off-putting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Honestly, this kind of love triangle is really boring to me, but Georges Delerue's score is incredibly memorable.
